It flies! It shoots! It operates the door-handles!

Raptor: Call of the Shadows 2010 Edition, ultimate HD remake of the classic top-down arcade DOS-era shoot 'em up, is available 60% off on GOG.com. That's only $2.39 for the next 24 hours!

Shoot 'em ups are one of the most classic game genres in existance. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and flavors. Lately, one of them became overwhelmingly popular. The so called "bullet hell" games, infamous for covering nearly the whole screen with enemy projectiles and having the player navigate frantically to avoid damage. Fun as it may be, this is not how it was done in the good old days. In classic arcade titles it was the other way around--nearly all bullets on the screen were being shot by your craft, bringing fiery destruction to waves upon waves of your foes, and waves upon waves of sheer satisfaction to you. This, brave fighter pilots, is one of these classic games.

Raptor: Call of the Shadows 2010 Edition has everything that made the classic shoot 'em ups so enjoyable. As a mercenary pilot you get to fly a powerful Raptor jet-fighter that you can upgrade in between missions with the money you earn for successfully taking down foes and demolishing enemy structures. Each mission takes you through waves of increasingly difficult bad guys coming at you from the top of the screen as you make your way up, towards the giant stage boss. The game in 2010 edition comes with enhanced, high-res graphic modes, but you can still play with the original visuals for extra-nostalgic experience!

Unleash the pixelated bullet hell in Raptor: Call of the Shadows 2010 Edition, for only $2.39 on GOG.com! The promo lasts until Tuesday, April 9, at 10:59AM GMT.

Kunovski: the game that made me wake up at 4 in the morning so that I could play it before my mom woke up and I had to go to school :D
Been there, done that :-D

BTW: This reminds me of AVGN bragging about "beating Contra before breakfast". Nice story, check it out:

Let me know as well, if you come to Ireland ;)
Any screenshots or video with the new graphics anywhere?
Wow...this was THE game back in elementary school. I used to have friends come over just to play it. That and Nightmare 3D...lol.
Looks like Tyrian. Does it play life Tyrian? Specifically, does it have similar classic arcade mission structure ala Tyrian and Galaga?
Wasn't this free at one point?

Edit: Nvm, seems I did actually pay for it :-p

Speaking of DotEmu (publisher of Raptor), is there any chance you'll be able to get their spruced up version of Square-Enix's Final Fantasy VII (it's rumored for Steam), minus the new online features of course.

Vote for it: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/final_fantasy_vii

Since when Galaga and Tyrian have similar mission structure?
I may have high standards growing up with Amiga and whatnot, but Raptor is the worst PC shmup I've played.
