We're giving away 100 games a day to our users to celebrate our 5th birthday!

For the last 5 years we've been doing our best to bring the best games in history to your home computers. Now, we're celebrating our birthday, and we want you--our users--to have a blast! That's why for the next five days we'll be giving away 100 games a day via our different channels (the forums, social media, YouTube). The details of each giveaway will be revealed on day to day basis, so make sure to drop by daily and see what are we up to.

So, we heard you like puzzles and trivia? Let's have some more of that, shall we? Today, our giveaway is once again forum-based, but requires some gaming knowledge and puzzle-solving skill. We present, the GOG.com B-Day crossword puzzle!

GOG.com 5th B-Day Crossword Puzzle

As you may have noticed, this isn't your regular crossword puzzle. You'll need not only guess what the correct words are, but also where do they go in the diagram. If you manage to get enough of them right, you'll be able to figure out the secret password. Send an email with the said password with the subject line CROSSWORD to contest@gog.com. Out of all the people who do this, we'll pick 100 users who will be sent a $9.99 gift-code.You have time until tomorrow, that's Friday, October 4, at 2:59PM GMT to send us your answer and enter the giveaway, as at that time we'll be moving to another communications channel with a new set of rules.

EDIT:
Have you participated in one of our 5th birthday contests, but are still waiting for its conclusion? We're a bit overwhelmed by the number of entries, as this is the ongoing biggest series of giveaways in the whole of GOG.com history. Please be patient, well sort it all out, eventually, and everyone who was lucky enough to win something will be notified. Sorry for the delay!

DarkoD13: I have to say though, it would be nice if you (GOG staff) guys had a better format for this kind of puzzles next year. Perhaps something where we could type in the missing letters? I don't know if I did it wrong, but since I have no printer, I solved the crossword in ms paint and the result is a horrific mess. I'll upload the pic tomorrow for a laugh.
XD
Same here, I rebuilt it in Excel.
Interesting puzzle, I hope I win this time.
Woo, got them all, and yes, the horny cat was the hardest for me... but then I facepalmed when I figured out what it was, because it's just so obvious in retrospect. I even have, and have played, the game!

And thank you, GOG, for doing just a random draw this time. No way I can be in the first 20 or whatever like the previous ones when I don't even get to see it until it's been up for 10+ hours.
Finally done, yay for regular expressions!

Plenty of facepalm moments in retrospect (bloody cat).

Thanks for the contest!

cannard: I wonder what significance the password holds...
I'm guessing that it is an anagram of a to-be-released game.
Got ya, sucka! Come on, GOG, draw my name. It's both our birthdays :p
I almost forgot to solve this... but now it's done. Nice crossword GOG, keep them coming ;)
Too hard for me. :-(

RaggieRags: Too hard for me. :-(
It's not hard, I also had trouble because I've never played some of the games. But I've still managed to guess. Just browse the gog catalog while solving ;)
Got one ("worth your bottlecaps") from actual game experience, some from having browsed GOG too much, some from google (well, startpage.com), had to confirm the bikini one on youtube :-)

For the rest I made a small Java program to search this page for words and sequences of words that matched the puzzle constraints as they played out (e.g., N letters, Xth letter = ..., Yth letter = this or that). Just had to ignore matches that mutilated the titles too much or included non-title words from that page (like "works on").

Easy peasy.

That was easier for you, than legitimately solving the crossword? It wasn't that difficult, you know.
Ah, it was changed. Figures -- I did wonder at the amount of people talking about the fastest 20 and others correcting them.

Don't know about you, but having some speed-related goal was partially what made it interesting for me, but I suppose you know better.

But it is very easy to use as is. All I did was use the Snipping Tool to cut it out. And open it in Microsoft Paint. Both tools come with Windows Free. Look at the results in the attached file. Use the magnifier to increase size and type in the words.

Sometimes you just have to use a bit of initiative and creatiivity to get things done. I was going to send this to GOG but they only want the answer. Took a whole minute to do the operation.

Note: No spoilers in the attached file, I just typed random letters.

Why snipping tool? Grab the image, then crop it in paint (since you will be editting it in paint after all).
