Welcome to Battle of the Games: vote today and get 60% off tomorrow!

We have officially welcomed Summer (at least for the Northern Hemisphere ;-)) during the CDP RED Group Summer Conference just two weeks ago. And even though the temperatures outside haven’t quite reached their peak yet, GOG.com will be packing some serious heat for the next 17 days. We’ve already given away Worlds of Ultima 1 & 2 earlier today, but this Summer Promo is something much, much bigger.

For each day between June 19 and July 5, two games will battle one on one and you will decide which title wins. VOTE NOW! Each Round of the Battle begins at 1 PM GMT (9 AM EST) and ends after 24 hours. After each round, the winner of the popular vote will be discounted 60% and the runner-up 40%, for the following 24 hours. Bookmark the Battle of the Games page, check back every day, vote, and buy amazing games 60% off during our summer Battle of the Games!

Round 1: Myst: Masterpiece Edition vs The 7th Guest
The two best-selling PC adventure games in history. Period.

Back in the early 90’s trying to make a game that stood out in terms of graphics was an ordeal--the floppies could handle a few MB and the 3D renders or videos required a hundredfold more disk space. Only a madman would try to create a game for that new shiny rounded disk that required expensive hardware and was soon to become that-thing-that-didn’t-catch-up. However, Myst and The 7th Guest made a couple of million people buy a CD-ROM drive. How? Because those two games were, and still are, amazing. The epic adventure in the lost empire of the D’ni and the spine-chilling escape from the mansion of horrific riddles both took the hearts of gamers by storm.

Vote now for your favorite dreamlike (or nightmarish) adventure and buy the voting winner tomorrow 60% off, while you can pick up the runner-up 40% off. Be sure to tweet, share, Google+, or stand on the street corner and shout to the cars passing by to vote for your favorite pick.

nmillar: Myst: $5.99, 7th Guest: $9.99 - surely everyone should vote for the more expensive title to get the bigger discount?
Yes, because the point of these polls is to ask "hey people, which one of these two is the more expensive and gets the bigger discount" ?

As mrkgnao already pointed out:

- If you vote for 7th Guest, T7G will cost $4 and MYST will cost $3.60 = $7.60 together
- If you vote for Myst, T7G will cost $6 and MYST will cost $2.40 = $8.40 together

VOTE 7TH GUEST!

yes. The point is to determine which game gets the bigger discount. Quoted from main page:

"Decide which game gets a bigger discount tomorrow!"

Why wouldn't people be trying to vote for which game gets the bigger discount... its in the instructions ;)

TheEnigmaticT: We've got a variety of options across all kinds of genres, so we think someone is bound to like one of the sales.
I don't have a single doubt that the selection of games will be great. I suggested simply to have same priced "opponents" to keep the focus on which game people prefer, rather than what will be more profitable.
In any case I have full confidence that you know your stuff better than I do and I'm eagerly awaiting the rest of the Battles! :D
I will not vote for the games i´m not interested to not unbalance the poll to the users that are really interested in some titles.

VOTE 7TH GUEST!
Yes and my point is that following such logic just defeats the point of these actions. Which should be a selection between the most wanted of two games. If it was a calculation of the biggest profit, the GoG staff can do it themselves and skip to the result.

(Also, vote 7th Guest. but for better reasons than that.)
I voted T7G out of nostagic reasons really. I was my first CDROM game. Myst:Masterpiece edition is a rehash (albeit a delicious one) of an existing game.
Awesome, love you guys!

Great, new and interesting things always popping up in here. :D
I voted for The 7th Guest.

Why?: I first saw the gameplay video when Jesse visited GOG studios. It looked awesome but I know I probably wouldn't pay $10 for it. Not because it wouldn't be worth it but because there are so many awesome games here that I want that are cheaper. I may pick it up tomorrow if it's 60% off otherwise I might put it on my Christmas list.
Lol, nice "contest", fun and original but i'm bothered somehow... The "loser" will probably be considered as less good while here, the 2 games are historically very important.

This competition is not very fair, and even maybe a bit disrespectful towards the 2 games. What if Amazon Kindle organized a contest about "who's the best, Victor Hugo or Shakespeare" ??

i'm not voting, but i shall enjoy the promo...
7th guest all the way, but at the time of posting Myst is running away with it.

Well, in any logical world, Shakespeare would win, then. :P

Then they'd be making a completely different contest ;)
If they where asking "What would you like to see on sale, 'Les Miserable" or 'Hamlet'?", would be a more appropriate similitude.

And by the way, the Amazon 'digital video game download' (or whatever is called) department actually does something like that quite often, letting people vote 1 (out of 4 or 5) game to go on sale next week.
Even though I might not get the results I want, I still think this is a pretty neat idea. Making these huge sales a bit more "interactive" helps to make them a little bit less of a chore.
How about not showing the poll results until the next day? Keep up the suspense.
