Welcome to Battle of the Games: vote today and get 60% off tomorrow!

We have officially welcomed Summer (at least for the Northern Hemisphere ;-)) during the CDP RED Group Summer Conference just two weeks ago. And even though the temperatures outside haven’t quite reached their peak yet, GOG.com will be packing some serious heat for the next 17 days. We’ve already given away Worlds of Ultima 1 & 2 earlier today, but this Summer Promo is something much, much bigger.

For each day between June 19 and July 5, two games will battle one on one and you will decide which title wins. VOTE NOW! Each Round of the Battle begins at 1 PM GMT (9 AM EST) and ends after 24 hours. After each round, the winner of the popular vote will be discounted 60% and the runner-up 40%, for the following 24 hours. Bookmark the Battle of the Games page, check back every day, vote, and buy amazing games 60% off during our summer Battle of the Games!

Round 1: Myst: Masterpiece Edition vs The 7th Guest
The two best-selling PC adventure games in history. Period.

Back in the early 90’s trying to make a game that stood out in terms of graphics was an ordeal--the floppies could handle a few MB and the 3D renders or videos required a hundredfold more disk space. Only a madman would try to create a game for that new shiny rounded disk that required expensive hardware and was soon to become that-thing-that-didn’t-catch-up. However, Myst and The 7th Guest made a couple of million people buy a CD-ROM drive. How? Because those two games were, and still are, amazing. The epic adventure in the lost empire of the D’ni and the spine-chilling escape from the mansion of horrific riddles both took the hearts of gamers by storm.

Vote now for your favorite dreamlike (or nightmarish) adventure and buy the voting winner tomorrow 60% off, while you can pick up the runner-up 40% off. Be sure to tweet, share, Google+, or stand on the street corner and shout to the cars passing by to vote for your favorite pick.

hucklebarry: hehe... you just insulted 1760 people and counting ;)
*gulp* Heh ... Actually I think I wrote something along the lines of "If I was interested in this type of games, wouldn't it be smarter for me to vote for the more expensive one and then get both of them cheap" - and that's assuming someone doesn't own any of them yet despite being interested in them and liking the genre ... not sure if that's likely. :)

Anyway, I didn't mean to insult anyone's intelligence. But the reason I edited my post had nothing to do with that, I just realized mrkgnao had already said all there is to say. Except maybe proposing that GOG could pit games of the same price point against each other, to avoid such financial speculations and focus on the popularity of the sale.

Then again - how about a battle between Crusaders of Might and Magic and The Witcher 2? ;)

well, I was being silly, I don't think you REALLY insulted them :p

I do hope we see two oddballs go against each other. Something like Witcher 2 vs. Sensible Soccer 2006. I'm always interested to see the way people react publicly over various issues and a simple number vote is interesting given various criteria.
Great concept because in the end everybody wins.
Excellent idea! That's one more reason to love GOG, always try to spice things up!

For the rest of the promo, they could pit two equally priced games, to remove the aspect of financial gain affect the voters' choice.

We've got a variety of options across all kinds of genres, so we think someone is bound to like one of the sales.
Oh I vote myst. I am in need of a new Point & click adventure. Since the euro is decreasing the games on GOG are getting more expensive. So I hope it will get the biggest discount. I don't like horror/thrillers in general so my choice has been made.
I am always broke when these summer sales come around. -_-

Guess I will be more broke in the coming weeks.
I know Myst will win, but I really really wanted to get 60% off 7th guest since I don't have it :p.

Wish it had a chance though.
Interesting concept, voted.
Cool people vote for 7th Guest. Others vote for Myst.

Wanna be cool?
I am worried that games I don't have and do want will go on sale for this thing while I have no money. *Shakes fist at good sales*
I was just wondering the other day if we'd get a "Staycation" this summer. The "Battle of the Games" is interesting, but I can see myself probably only picking up winning games I'm interested in at the 60% and 40% split. If it were 60% and 50% I would have been more likely to go ahead and grab something on the losing side. Can't help but think of how disappointing it'll be if something I've been waiting for a good sale on will pop up and then lose.
Dudes and Dudesses,
Myst has been in various promos already. It's one of the best selling adventures games ever. You'll get it eventually if you really want it and it's worth even the $5.99 price tag.
Please, let's give a chance to relatively fresh on gog.com, 7th Guest.
Sincerely yours,
cich
I voted Myst only because it was the game that got me started in the game world and the gaming industry. should be thankfull for that.It is a awsome game..and every so offen i play it just to bring back memories..7th Guest is also a great game . These are truely the greatest adventure games ever and to this day nothing comes close..
Myst: $5.99, 7th Guest: $9.99 - surely everyone should vote for the more expensive title to get the bigger discount?
