The different game starts give very different first impressions of these games. The difficulty rating given by the developers are totally off in several cases too. They might have been accurate when that particular game start was introduced maybe three games previously in the X game series. If you start in a tiny rust bucket with no funds nor equipment, the game will be off to a slow start and manifold so if you do not exactly know what to do. If you want to get somewhere a bit faster there are game starts better suited for that, like the bankrupt assassin or Terran commander.
If there is a smaller part of the game you are not too fond of there is probably a mod(ification) that changes that.

WinterSnowfall: Bumping this in the hope more people will sign up...
Perhaps some links to example diaries might help:

The Priest Duke's compliments... ahem, bump.
What a shame, I've been replaying Reunion recently, as I've never managed to actually buy Avarice before. I'm about up to day 7 (about half way through 6 actually), Avarice is just out at 50M, and I was seriously excited thnking I was going to get it this time. I've been saving everything up, carefully managing my spending and not investing in long term factories like SPPs. There I was with double the asking price.

So I go to try and buy it. Cannot find any way to do so. I look it up on the net, turns out you only get that chance at 615M!. Now I have about 3 days to turn 100M into about 700M. Turns out I was supposed to be investing it all and following a much more aggressive profit curve.

Damn.

Good luck to everyone, it's a cool game.
NOT IN but +1 for the giveaway.

You can still make it. Will be rather hard though. Xenon mission, bring a shitload of money. The find and destroy missions. Capturing enemy ships. Yes some nice money out there.

If you actually go with the Xenon/hunting missions, it is actually 'quite' easy to get this money.

If you stick just with trading, that is tough! You really have to invest every single penny and make the most out of it.

But you have a bit more then 3 days. There is also somewhere else another trigger, unless you already sprung it ;). And 615 is just the starting bit.
Life just happened and I haven't done any gaming, or had time to, for a couple of weeks, and that won't change for a couple of months. I need to gratefully step aside and withdraw my entry for the good of others who are interested.
Good luck to all, esp to Wintersnowfall for doing this ga
Instead of gardening I could be playing X3:Terran Conflict. I wish I were.
You people do not want to fail to board this ship.

If the following is OK, please add me in the list for a shot at winning the game.

Not sure I can game every day for 7 days straight, but will fulfill with seven posts after seven plays.

To point four: "swear a sacred oath to uphold your end of the bargain" I will hold up my end (responsibilities) because of personal integrity not a sacred oath.

Either way, thank you for your kindness in offering the game and a good idea to expect something back from the winner.

Oh my, is that how the game looks with everything on low? :P

*Sigh* I did say it before a couple of times I think... I wasn't referring to actual days in real life, but "game" days. The game has an internal clock which counts the amount of time you spend in game.

Once you exhaust one in-game day (for the first 7 days) you have to add one post - its content is entirely up to you, so you can keep it short or elaborate, as you wish.

Does that sound better? If I sign you up will you stick to the rule? :P

Again, I can mention it took me about 10 months of on/off play to get to 7 in-game days. How much you play or how long it takes you to get to the 7 day milestone is again up to you.

How do I get enough of these missions? I've had 4 XI missions, and killed the K 4 times, but it only nets me 6 mil a time. Assassination missions get me half a mil at the moment, and I've had about 4 of them (all to kill TL ships). I combat rank Warrior, is it a matter of just upping that?

Also, what's the secret to killing these things? I've heard people talk of going to Xenon sectors with the Hyperion and "Turning everything to scrap". I can't hold my own against a single K. I hear cryptic references to using "Strafe", but I don't quite get how that gives such an edge?

Sadly yes :-( All rock bottom except for resolution at a tiny step above the absolutely lowest allowed. Modern integrated graphics should allow for much better settings. Have more VRAM (graphics memory) than 256MB and something better than the slowest graphics card that was new ten years ago and you should be good as long as your processor is fast enough at single thread tasks.

I also misunderstood that seven days thing when I signed up for the first giveaway but wisened up quick.

The kill missions are directly linked to you fighting rank, higher rank, higher payment.

Oh strafing: most important!

as the x-series is simulation each shot with a real speed, you can dodge the incoming shoots by moving to the side using the strafing keys (IIRC A and D) this will move your ship to the left or right, but without moving forward. This way you can still shoot, but have a movement to the side, hence a slower shot will miss you.

For the bigger ships, you don't fight like with an aeroplane, no f. way. instead you get into weapon range, just about, you always keep this distance (check like every 5 seconds), and then you move left right, up and down to evade the incoming fire of the enemy ship while pouncing him into small little pieces to be sold at the market (ok this part I made up).

This even works with smaller ships against bigger ships, each ship has different slots for weapons, some can have no rear weapons, hence best position to attack, yes from the back.

And the Xenon sectors do use different ships, they are harder to kill ;) So be warned. But the success comes with the strafing. To really see it, best way, go in front of a station, reduce speed to 0 and then press A and D, works best if you are really close to the station.

Yes, please sign me up. I did not read every post so did not realize "in game" days. Thanks
