gogtrial34987: After that, I might have a look at the manual...
For the controls general information, yes. But do not believe everything written in there ;)

And for docking, you first have to ask for landing clearance.

ashwald: A diary thread for my first in-game week with X3: Terran Conflict and/or X3: Albion Prelude + screenshot for every day-entry. Yep, I'm fine with it.
Ok, then it's official :). Congrats! I'll send you the code shortly.

So, now that I've (finally) given away the two copies, I encourage the winners to get their feet wet and start their diaries. As some example diaries from the winners of my previous giveaway, we have:

https://www.gog.com/forum/x_series/hardradas_x3_albion_prelude_diary
https://www.gog.com/forum/x_series/my_x3terran_conflict_game_diary

And of course, my very own:

https://www.gog.com/forum/x_series/wintersnowfalls_x3ap_corner_of_the_galaxy

Enjoy and I hope we'll all get some kick out of discussing your adventures and helping you discover the X3 universe.

gogtrial34987: Discovered it didn't want to run.
You can just "unzip" the Linux installer - the content of the game should be somewhere in the "data" folder if I remember correctly. You can then copy it to whatever folder you like and run it, hopefully without issues.

There are some ongoing problems with the Linux version though, depending on what Linux distro you're running it on, so if you say the Windows version runs fine under Wine, you might want to stick to that ;).

I have the game working pretty well on Linux now (running the install script with bash instead of dash did the trick (bizarre...)). Still trying some of the suggested fixes for F1 crashing, but I suspect I can live with not switching the camera, too.

edit:
There, everything seems to be working pretty much flawlessly, now. I've documented the bugs I encountered, and how I solved them over on the X-series forum.
Based on what I've seen of the game so far, I suspect I'll have a few false starts before I manage to actually play for a full hour (let alone a full day), but sooner or later I'll be getting around to those diary entries. :)

WinterSnowfall: Enjoy
Thank you! Currently downloading. Though the numbers are wildly fluctuating between 2 and 13 hours O_O. Maybe if I pray to enough internet gods I'll get to start tonight.
I'm only ~6 hours of game time into the game, but gameplay time will be scarce for the next week or two, so I figured I'd take an early shot at starting my diary.

Ashwald: I'm also playing Terran Defender, so this might go on to contain storyline spoilers (there's one or two minor ones already; although I figure you're probably way ahead of me anyway).
I was gifted a copy of X3: Reunion a few days ago by a friend on GOG here and just noticed this giveaway thread and it got me to thinking...

It could be some fun to do a game diary for many or even all games just for the heck of it. It could be done from the real life gamer perspective either discussing the progress in the game, or even providing review/critique commentary, or it could be also done in-character with some games at least - where you journal in-character role-playing the journalling. Like playing through The Witcher 3 for example and writing a journal in 1st person as Geralt. That could be interesting, funny, or anything else. :)

Saw it today, right after posting mine in fact (there's spoilers there though I haven't progressed more than you in story missions and stuff that might qualify as gameplay tips so tread carefully). I don't think we can avoid spoilers if we read each other's diaries but I don't mind. It's interesting comparing perspectives.

It is if you like the game... and can do it whenever you feel like it :).

Yeah, it sounds like it could be fun. Especially the idea of possibly getting in-character to do a diary, at least with certain games/characters. You could of course add fantasy content to the story involving day to day activities you have to do which aren't necessarily part of the game but which could add entertainment value to someone reading or listening to it. For example Geralt gets the shits from eating some meat that was a bit off, and had to spray down Roach with water or something after having an accident. Ok, perhaps that's a bit graphic but you get the idea - to have a bit of fun with it whether humorous or otherwise creative. :) I might try to do something like that some time with the right game perhaps. :oP
