gamesfreak64: many steam addicts who adore the big steam, take the big client for granted, but that program must have had loads of working hours and (bug) testing before it was released

Kleetus: Steam was the worst piece of crap when it was first released, it would crash the OS and corrupt files.

It took many years and updates until it was reliable.
I'm pretty sure when it was fairly new on Linux it actually contained a mistake somewhere, uninstalling Steam would delete a LOT more than just the Steam folder.
My guess: they have a memory leak, you have swap enabled and on drive C. So it filled up all your C with swap.
Well mike_cesara already posted what the problem is, but here is also an official blue post:

The obligatory link for anyone who stumbles into the thread wondering if there is another, semi-automated way to download the games:

It uninstalls like a dream!

Being optional.
I don't think that's something new on windows.

Smannesman: It uninstalls like a dream!
Well if it doesn't delete half of System32 then it's doing something right.

Randalator: Being optional.
Right now that's it's main selling point.

Being shit.
I tried Galaxy yesterday. It froze mid update. I had to shut it down via Task Manager. Later, I tried downloading a back up copy of a game and I swear (not a joke, seriously) once it was done Galaxy gave me a notification in what appeared to be Japanese. Now, let's be clear, Japanese is not supported by Galaxy AND I never installed Japanese fonts on my PC ever. I uninstalled Galaxy immediately after that.

OK, that's funny. And a little creepy. I think the client may be possessed by some malign spirit.
