tomimt: I suspect many people pining after the original version of it will be badly disappointed, as their memories of it may be drastically different from what the game was.
I think that's what's going to happen. There's a ton of mechanics that aged like milk:

- Doing quests wasn't enough. You had to go through mind numbing grind sessions to level up.

- Speaking of grinding, every upgraded weapon was useless until you grind the necessary skill to actually use it

- If you were a hunter and you forgot to feed your pets, they would run away

- If you were a hunter and you didn't bring ammo with you, your raid group will run away

- It was common for hunters to roll need on weapons that they shouldn't have.

- Mob stealing was also a problem. When you fight a monster it gets tagged by you and your party, meaning no one else will get credit for the kill, and IIRC you also can't loot it. If you are questing you need to steer clear of people who aren't in your party who are doing the same quest. You will start competing for monsters, and the whole thing becomes a pain. This happened to me once by a fellow guild member. I tried to invite him, but he rejected. There was also the issue of people going out of their way to tag mobs to keep you from progressing with your quest. This is different because it is intentional. I've never been griefed this way myself, though.

- You had to use cookie cutter talents. You might get some elbow room with one or two points, but it's not much. Talents are like this now, but it's a common complaint from people pining for classic.

There's a ton of stuff I'm forgetting. That's just off the top of my head.

We fucked up big time, gotta do something to make them happy...

We still got all the old server executables and data, just throw it on a server and call it good. Expect 200,000 players or so. That's good... We'll still charge a subscription for it.

As far as I understand you get access to the classic WOW servers, as a bonus for your standard WOW subscription. So you don't play anything extra, but you need a WOW subscription.

And that is great news for me because I want to play both Live and Classic WOW.

more like - "people have been asking for classical servers for years now, and played on hacked servers just to do so. why don't we give it to them as well? good business, it gives good will and retention"
Great, WOW has a date and here I am, getting ready to spend my 1200th strait Saturday night alone.

You should give the game a go then. Hook up with some hot little Night Elf babe, could be the start of something special. Of course, most hot Night Elf's are actually played by a mid 40's bald, smelly, overweight dude with man boobs...but still, your Saturday wouldn't be alone.

Mob stealing and a few other problems are ironic for a multiplayer game that stops people playing together.

I disagree with a few of the other points.

Weapons grinding was good for RPG and class selection purposes. The same goes for hunters and their ammo which could be crafted* for better performance. They had to put some thought into their pets and could hunt rare pets with special abilities.

Classes didn't need to use cookie cutter talents unless you were a serious raider. Depending on your class and what you wanted, you had more flexibility but the problem was respec costs.

* This created a mini economy for other players by crafting ammo and other weapon upgrades.

Maybe...

I'd still be skeptical. Remember, Activision brought back a loved remastered MW3, held it hostage so only if you bought another game. Then they eventually sold it separate but didn't include all the DLC/mappacks for it.

On top of that they added Micro-transactions to the older game.

I am just waiting to see if they are acting out of good faith, or if the greedy Activision head company has made them add some 'changes'...

Sorry, there's a lot of companies i just don't trust right now.
Awesome, i might resub to try it.

I am going to say that I loved having to feed the pets as a Hunter.

I am going to say that I loved having to buy ammo for bows, crossbows, and guns as a Hunter.

I never rolled for weapons I did not need as a Hunter I always rolled only for bows, crossbows or guns.

I hate that Blizzard Entertainment added level scaling of NPC's in World of Warcraft in 2017.

EQ has done it, let's copy them! (again).
Might jump on board and see if it is as I remember it from April 05 and those all weekend sessions with friends. Still have a Night Elf Druid from that time.... the character is now 14 years old and in just one more year will be old enough to have sex here in Denmark.

Fuck I'm getting old!
Someone should start a GOG Guild
