Well, looks like I'm wrong after reading the CRN article. Looks like TPM 2.0 (Intel Core i[n]-8000+ and Ryzen 2000+) are minimum requirements for Windows 11. Guess I'll be sticking to Windows 10 for a bit. Not that there's any compelling reason to switch over right now anyway.

if you want to find out what your processor is, run something like dxdiag and compare with this list -

Starkrun: Microsoft confirms Windows 11 will only support 8th Gen and up CPUs.
The video I saw said it's designed for every device. That doesn't sound like every device.

This isn't something new, but a logical development of the WGA, which has grown from a bunch of files in Windows XP to a hardware anchor, requiring secure boot and secure storage. This isn't much different on Apple also. The main reason, which motivated me to switch to Linux in first place was Windows Vista's NGSCB, which literally was designed to strip the control from the users. From that date on, Windows proved for me, that its a toy, not a tool.

The Windows users are like hedgehogs in famous Russian saying.

My belief that 6th-8th gen cores were practically identical turned out to be wrong.

Kaby Lake introduce something called Mode Based Execution Control. Microsoft uses it for something they call Hypervisor-protected code integrity

HVCI protects modification of the Control Flow Guard (CFG) bitmap.
HVCI also ensures that your other trusted processes, like Credential Guard, have got a valid certificate.
Microsoft defines Control Flow Guard as

Control Flow Guard (CFG) is a highly-optimized platform security feature that was created to combat memory corruption vulnerabilities. By placing tight restrictions on where an application can execute code from, it makes it much harder for exploits to execute arbitrary code through vulnerabilities such as buffer overflows. CFG extends previous exploit mitigation technologies such as /GS, DEP, and ASLR.
HVCI is an optional feature of Windows 10, and it appears to become mandatory in Windows 11.

In summary: 8th gen (and many? 7th gen) have new security features that Microsoft considers so important they are willing to strand a significant proportion of their userbase.

Just switch to Linux or refuse to upgrade on Win 11 and stay on win 10 even if you met the requirement to upgrade it to show them what we think about this stupid decision.

Or mainly the mandatory TPM 2.0 (see: Trusted Computing), which is needed to enforce draconian DRM and to remove even more control from the user..

Secure in what sense? Secure in say that you may be using a Gaming console and you can only run games that THEY say you can do and you can only use it the way THEY say you can use it? *shrugs* Sure that's secure. It's akin to buying a car but the hood is welded shut and you can't do anything without going to a 'certified mechanic', so good luck not paying $300 to switch a dead headlight out.

'Secure' should simply be vs viruses, network bugs, cyber hacking and BSOD. Not your ability to use the system as you want it. Oh it could mean more, but if people own it, they should be able to modify it to their whim and have it run as they want; not how some corporation wants it.

secure in how it should make sure the boot process isnt compromised
if they will make it harder to install/control your apps ill be against it , but so far this is only an assumption from you
and for drm , it is their store , i dont like it , i never purchase there , except this cheap xbox pass

Switch to what??? Linux is bad for gaming.
Win10 is not good either. I'm switching my second OS (10) to 11 when it's fully stable. Restrictions can easily be bypassed.

Win7 still one love.
