Johnathanamz: I was not talking about the free market. I know what a free market is and what a monopoly is.
avatar
shmerl: You know that, but you obviously are anti-free market, since you support lock-in.

avatar
Johnathanamz: Free products suck.
avatar
shmerl: How exactly clueless are you? You have no idea, right? Free software displaced non free one in a huge amount of markets both industrial and consumer. You just didn't pay attention I guess, being so busy with lock-in justification.

It's probably best to just ignore the troll.

Johnathanamz: Please by all means quit your actual job and go program a Linux distro and let people donate you money. See how long you will survive working for free with only donations and if you will be able to pay off your monthly bills like your house, etc.
My actual job includes using free software. Quite a lot of it including Linux as well. So go educate yourself please, because your rants about this subject look more ridiculous with each iteration.

I said quit your actual job even if it involves you working on free software and just program a Linux distro and accept donations from people.

Whether or not your job makes you work on free software it's still an actual job.

Seems so, so no amount of arguments made any sense for him. Voluntary support of lock-in is just weird and looks more like a shill role.
I think it's not hard to guess who's keep posting here..

That's possible, though not in my location exactly. If you are interested in such kind of job - go apply to RedHat or Jolla or whatever other company that specializes in distro creation. They need more developers. Or your MS membership stops you?

Haha :D

Who does RedHat get donations from? Fortune 500 companies? Small businesses? People? Or all? Pretty sure they get donations from Fortune 500 companies and small businesses. Now way in hell will they make a living off of donations of people like me and you donating $10 dollars (USD) a month or $100 dollars (USD) a month.

I don't work for Microsoft so...

He pops up whenever Windows comes up. I'm not surprised that he's profiting from the BS that he's spreading though. A tad dishonest of him not to disclose his bias. I've used Windows and even 7, the best version ever, was just mediocre. 10 is shaping up to be pretty terrible as well.
Linux/open-source software is so "bad and inferior" that even the mighty Microsoft had to rethink the whole concept of Windows 10 and will distribute it *free of charge* for all those using Win 7 and 8 right now. It might not be exactly "free distribution", but it's something, and it definitely shows they were shaken by the whole open-source OS market, just like they were shaken before with the whole pre-installed IE controversy and now have to have Firefox and Chrome pre-loaded in their system releases.

Lock-ins are bad, they only help the ones holding the monopolies, and, like this whole Arkham Knight fiasco proved, given the proper tools, users *do* speak up against monopolies, urging them and ultimately driving them to change. Microsoft needs to adapt, and that proves that despite whatever percentages you throw at us, the fact is that Linux is growing and the "big boys" need to change the way they have been doing things so far, or they will fall behind.

I'm not even a Linux user myself, but I wholeheartedly support and stand by those who are, and I think it's hypocritical to support GOG for being DRM-free and not supporting open-source OSes and software, which are the epitome of DRM-free.

By your own admission you're still profiting from badmouthing Linux though and puffing up Windows.

RedHat is paid by industrial customers. Do yourself a favor and read on the subject first.

Microsoft is distributing Windows 10 for free for 1 year only.

Hopefully they fix 10, what I'm seeing now is pretty embarrassing. It's a bit better in terms of performance, but oh god is it ugly and I'm not seeing anything in there that's particularly special.

They're giving it away in large part because they don't want to lose customers to OSX, Linux or any number of other possible vendors. Pretty much the same reason why they rarely, if ever, file suits against home users that pirate their software.

What industrial customers? Car manufacturers? Steel mills? All those are rich or multi billion dollars (USD) corporations, which are Fortune 500 companies.

Or are you talking about 3D rendering design customers? Which some might be working for Fortune 500 companies or even small businesses.

There is a guy in my city who I know of who does 3D modeling for freelancing on Linux and he makes a living working for a small business that makes a couple million dollars (USD) a year.
LOL, abuse via chat, how classy of you Johnathon. And you say you're not a troll.
