Orkhepaj: looks like the whole year is a holiday for gog support
avatar
MemoryRunaMelody: it's theophany currently. Tomorrow is Orthodox Chrismas, but I doubt Polish celebrate that.

Funny trivia - Tiffany is medieval English version of Theophany, it was given to children born on Janaury 6th.
Theophany? Here in Germany it`s a holiday too, but it`s called "Holy Three Kings", a day to remember the three kings who visited the newborn christ.

The holiday is only in a few regions of germany today.

But it's a bank holiday in the entire Poland.

You are right, but the information from Maxvorstadt about Germany and the holiday is not correct...

Read the Wikipedia-article, and yep, the heretics don`t have that holiday! :-D
Weird, I always thought that this is a holiday in whole of Germany.

Theophany means something related to Holy Three Kings... we here have word Bogojavljanje, but unsure what to translate this to English. Theophany is Greek.

Here it's called Epiphany or the Magi Kings Day. It is not only a national holiday but also our traditional gift-giving day.
Well, having Russian friends I get to celebrate Christmas again today XD

Yes, I read on Wikipedia that Christmas is on the 6th of January in Spain. Weird!

We celebrate Christmas on December 25th as well. It's just that gifts are brought by the Kings on January 6th instead of Santa on Christmas Eve. Or at least it was that way when I was young. Nowadays most children have somehow rationalized that it makes perfect sense to ask for different sets of presents to each on both dates.

That's epifania on the 6th. Not Christmas. We also call it la Befana, who Is a good witch filling up good children socks with candies. As with many Catholic traditions, it's intertwined with pagan origins.
