We have been complaining about DLC for so long (I say around since 2008-9) and so far these DLC/Pre-Order practices has not gone away. Publishers will not stop because these things do sell.

I made this thread in response to a youtuber named MundaneMatt and his anger at Mortal Kombat X's "Buy Easy Fatalities" DLC which is basically buying the option to just press one button to preform a Fatality finisher in the game, saying its things you see in Mobile Freemium games:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ub8bvAT7Rwk

he already complained about the DLC season pass even though the last Mortal Kombat had one and no one complained and at this point I just say, whats the point Matt, people like you have been complaining about this for years and it has not stopped or even lessened.

And besides this game will most likely get a complete edition in the future if their last 2 games are to come by. So your complaints are all for naught and I believe you did this just so you can get content on your video channel :P

The hope that they don't get even worse.
People have been complaining about NAZI GERMANY since the 30s. Well, mid-45, things started to change.

SO THERE.

People's reaction these days implies it has gone worse.

Back in 2007 this is how much DLC could be offered in a game:

Call of Duty 4 had 1 map pack.

Mass Effect had 1 story DLC (and that optional arena DLC)

Now look at DLC now:

Saints Row 3 has 3 mission packs. and whole lot of other packs for things like weapons, costumes, vehicles, homies, etc.

Call of Duty gets like 4-5 map packs and other stuff these days.

Pre Orders gives you so much content that people who did not pre order felt cut out.

It has been getting worse and our complaints were all for naught.

Huh, erm, no ?
Look at games like Evolve and Destiny, they are essentially built around DLC.

Destiny literally had story threads that just stopped unless you bought the DLC and Evolve had about $150 of day 1 DLC.

Just because the vast unwashed masses are stupid and buy them and they're still profitable doesn't mean that one shouldn't stop criticizing them. Because they are and continue to be bad.

But for how long? How LONG?

Until the complete abolishment of DLC/Pre-Order bonuses? Or it has dragged on for so long it will never go away and we accept defeat?

If people keep up the argument, it does reach some people (smaller publishers, indie devs, etc), and does help to prevent them from mucking their release. So it's not all for naught.

Actually, in the Kickstarter community for tabletop games, the message has been more successful and there are fewer Kickstarters with "Kickstarter exclusive content" and those that do still have less of it.

Stop criticizing these shady practices and pretty soon there won't be any Complete/GOTY editions either, just like there aren't any for your beloved Bioware/EA games.

Ergh indie gaming is not the saivor of gaming, looking at Steam Greenlight/Early Access.

And certain Indie devs doing malicious actions. Like Copyright striking a video purposely to censor critique. (Look at Day One Garry's Incident and plenty of vids that were taken down from Jim Sterling)

And lets not forget the likes of Phil (Fez 2 is cancelled because people rustled my jimmies) Fish and Zoe (I had sex with a journalist for favors) Quinn.

I assume its people asking for a version of the game with all the DLC included.

And I thought Bioware has completely lost its relevence after Mass Effect 3?

Most of the people criticizing DLC are the ones that prefer buying games with all the content in one package, complete editions of games are slowly declining recently and are mostly just available on consoles e.g. Bioshock Infinite.

As for Bioware, not really since Dragon Age: Inquisition has been their best selling game so far while receiving rave reviews and numerous awards as well.
