plays Death to spies: Stalinist, dreams of joining the NKVD.

plays Blitzkrieg and other WW2-themed games where you can play as the Germans: Nazi, probably wears a Stahlhelm when gaming.

plays Caesar, Age of decadence and other Roman-themed games: longs for the restoration of the Roman empire, probably fascist.

plays only fps: potential spree killer training for his shooting.

plays only rpgs: probably Satanist who plays D&D in steam cellars.

plays only strategy games: militarist.

plays only old adventures: loser who doesn't have money for a proper computer to play new games.

plays Leisure suit Larry, Huniepop: probably sex criminal.

this thread is gold
On a more serious note I was thinking what would be really be possible to assume from information even coming from "minimal" profiles. It shouldn't be hard to write some crawler that visits all the profile pages (going through the forum, friend lists etc... I wouldn't be surprised if somebody already has that...

Now you can build a database of usernames and (unreliable) location (from the forum), and join date.

You also know the number of owned games in any case, achievements and play time for people who have used Galaxy before.

The interesting thing now, is not that one-time snapshot. You could watch all the known accounts over a longer period of time.
For instance you could assume the taste in games from when the number of games goes up by one after certain releases.
You could assume a "scrimper" if someone almost never buys outside large sales, but then usually a number of games.
For users having time tracking still on, who can monitor the increase of hours played. During the week, or only on weekends? If you know the location even what time of day. This allows to make assumptions about work status, family or single...
This is all very interesting data for marketing purposes. Of course individual cases will be wrong. Someone playing all day might be working night shift...

Since many people use same or similar usernames and avatars across several sites, you can cross-reference, and in some cases even pinpoint the individual. But even if not, find the same handle on a motor forum or a football site tells you more...

You could also look at peoples profiles pictures. I've guessed a few of them right so far.

Like you're Rick Dangerous for example.
Well, on the bright side, the store's profiles still tell more about GOG than about its customers.

toxicTom: Plays a lot of oldies
Old guy...
Maybe try "Nostalgic person..." You don't have to be old in order to enjoy "old" video games. Also there's more than one variant of crotch region available for people who enjoy video games or nostalgic people.

mintee: Almost 400 hrs in a zombie apocalypse game.
Seemingly hardcore gamer, but 380 of those hours spent 'decorating' survival bunkers with curtains and flowers.
If you can tolerate NCSoft, you might want to give WildStar a shot. While the housing system in that game could use some work, it's the best I've seen in a free game to this day. You get housing available on a relatively low level. Spend your first batch of Omni Coins (or whatever they're called now) on more sale/buy slots in the auction house and make your money for shiny ornaments that way. No need for grinding. Just get a feeling for your server's auction house and enjoy building a TARDIS out of room dividers and a shrunken lamp. ;)
