Melvinica: A proper Gothic (4 or 5) made by Piranha Bytes.
*drool*

Actually Piranha Bytes are making remaking Gothic 1, there's a demo on STeam. Haven't tried it, but I have high hopes regardless.

On topic -

The DrakenSang series. Excellent RPGs, very atmospheric. There really should have been a 3rd. But I think the company went under, and the next one salvaged what was left into a mobile game...yikes.

That game teaser was developed by THQ Nordic Barcelona, not Piranha Bytes, and from what I've heard it doesn't seem to have a lot in common with the original anymore and looks rather bad, just a bland modern run-of-the-mill RPG with no soul. I think it isn't even clear whether there will be a full game, is it?

Leroux: To be honest though, I tried to come up with a good one and I can't think of any.
I tend to buy sequels of games I enjoyed but I hardly ever really wish for them.
Same here. I can't really think of any game for which I would want a sequel.

If anything, I guess I would rather wish for modernized versions of some of my favourite old games.

And by "modernized versions" I mean: the "exact" same games (= no changes to the story, no changes to the core gameplay, etc.), but with modern amenities that I got used to over the years (more intuitive UIs, modern control schemes, nicer graphics, in some cases maybe better (or more) save options, etc.)

That would be dope.

FrodoBaggins: A dormant series I wish could get revived?

I have to go with one of the best gaming series ever!

DIZZY! ( :

Dizzy was a hero in my gaming youth. Starting on the humble Spectrum, and continuing onto the PC.
We desperately need a new Dizzy game.
Wonderful memories of all those games from the first one! If you didn't know about it already, there is a website for fan games using a new engine:
http://www.yolkfolk.com/dizzyage/
http://www.yolkfolk.com/dizzyage/games.php
Heretic/Hexen I don't think i need to say much more. But at this point i'd be happy if the existing entries made their way here.

Lunar Silver Star Story and Eternal Blue (preferably the PS1 remasters) are 2 of the most heartwarming jrpgs i have ever played and finished. Would love a proper Lunar 3 (That is not the abomination we got on DS)

I just read they're definitely making it, but you're right, it's not PB developing it. They're working on something else, even though owned by THQ.

Shame.

Still, even if it's just Gothic 1 remade in UT4, I'm sold. Insta-buy.

I believe the studio claimed they are now in development on a full release.

I've gone back-and-forth on the Gothic remake. Initially I was glad to have Gothic back in the public eye... but... the more I've watched that demo, the less interested I am in seeing a release. The demo just has so little of the initial game's DNA that it makes the exercise feel hollow IMO.

A couple of other series I'd like to see revived...

Vietcong

Hidden & Dangerous

Really miss the Illusion Softworks days!

Lennus series. It got 2 games, and the end of the 2nd game sets up for a 3rd sequel that would take place on planet Raiga, but that sequel never happened. (Also, only the 1st game made it to the US, with the misleading title Paladin's Quest (the main character is a mage, not a paladin).)

Years ago, from the later SNES era all the way until a point during the Nintendo DS era, I would have put the classic mario games on the list. The NES got 3 (assuming you count exactly one of Lost Levels and USA, as Lost Levels is arguably more of an expansion of 1 and USA is completely different mechanically), yet the SNES got 1, and then the classic series just disappeared.

Here's why other games with the Mario title don't really count:
* SMW2: Yoshi's Island: The gameplay is completely different, there's no power-ups, there's something like a health meter that decreases when baby Mario has been knocked away and recovers to a point once you rescue him (instead of the classic approach of losing your power-up or dying if you have none), and egg throwing dominates combat.
* Super Mario RPG: This isn't even the same genre. Again, you don't find power-ups in this game, and combat is turn-based with action commands and is on a separate screen.
* Super Mario 64: This game isn't just a 3D sequel to the series. We, again, have no power-ups that aren't on a timer, no fire flower, no loss of power-up on hit. Instead, we have a health meter, falling damage, and having to come up for air while swimming. Also, Mario can now punch, which really doesn't feel right. This game does not play like a 3D version of the classic forumls would.

(Of course, later New Super Mario Bros. came out, and *finally* we had a new entry into the classic series rather than to a 3D or "RPG" spin-off series.)
Dizzy - Kyrandia - Flashback - Duke Nukem - Myth - Quake 1 (only for this one) - Heretic (not Hexen) - Nocturne/Blair Witch 1 (technically it's not part of the series but still)

krugos2: It would be great to see a sequel to Another World by Éric Chahi, or a spin off in the same universe.
In case you didn't know there is a sequel / spin-off in the same universe by Interplay (not E.Chani)

Lemmings.

NOLF.

Commandos. I’d love for Mimimi to get a stab at that one.

Broken Sword.

Do you happen to understand german? I haven't played them myself, but there are a couple of mods that supposedly are very good.
"Das Auge der Göttin" extends Drakensang with a lot of endgame content. https://www.crystals-dsa-foren.de/showthread.php?tid=5045

"Forscher in Nöten" adds some mid-game content for River of Time. https://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/threads/776269-Editoren-und-Modifikationen-f%C3%BCr-Drakensang-AFdZ?p=15453615&viewfull=1#post15453615

Unfortunately not :(

I would have really enjoyed these mods otherwise, maybe would have started another playthrough just because of them.
A Valley Without Wind.

Front Mission (on PC, otherwise I don't care).

Suikoden (ditto).

MissionForce.

Anachronox.

I'm not sure how to distinguish between dormant and dead, but I would have liked to see Sword of the Stars developed further. They did a lot of things amazingly well in the first game.
