Good job CDP, good job.
I really don't know what people are complaining about honestly. Now days it's the normal to charge for every little piece of downloadable content... your getting 16 free DLC's which is like already unheard of. Expansions Packs are more akin to how it use to be back in the day, you got a lot of extra content for your $$$, nowadays this is becoming rare. I have personally have no problem with CD Projeckt charging for extra content that is a significant improvement to the original game and worth paying for. Sure it is perhaps a little bad to announce such content even before the vanilla game is released.... but that still that doesn't take away anything from what is already being offered.

Or have we forgotten Oblivion horse armor already...

DreamedArtist: so if this is already in the works that means this was content already stripped from the game?... I hate seeing season passes but from the looks of the content you say 20 hours for one part and expanded regions and what not I guess I can let this slip...

20 is not bad compared to to 9.99 ones I seen for other games that give almost nothing.

Edit my thoughts now

with the 16 free dlc stuff and the price drop of the game I see now why this was done pays itself at the end really when you think about it.

darthspudius: I'd like to see any evidence that it was "stripped" from the game. It seems people are starting to get up set. Calling all trolls and tinyE, get to work!
I hope it was not but again if you look at the recent things they did with the price and free dlc this pays for itself and ADDS more hours to the game and extra are to it as well so I might just called this an expansion pack not a Expansion pass really.

GOG CALL IT AN EXPANSION PACK! SOUNDS SO MUCH BETTER!

Official announcement is now live.
Plenty will discuss the repercussions, so for now I'll just say:

I'll play Witcher 1, Witcher 2, and Witcher 3 first. But, y'know, maybe someday...
Ah, now I can wait to upgrade my computer and not feel bad about not being able to play W3 on launch. I will get it in the inevitable GOTY/Complete/Enhanced edition (like the previous Witchers, at least it will fit into my collection) :)
According to Marcin Iwiński in this article:

"With the development of Wild Hunt coming to an end, the team has embarked upon the creation of two new really big adventures set in The Witcher universe. We remember the time when add-on disks truly expanded games by delivering meaningful content. As gamers, we'd like to bring that back. We've said in the past that if we ever decide to release paid content, it will be vast in size and represent real value for money."

Though I won't question the amount of content since we can't be sure until it actually comes out. I am however not impressed with CD Projekt RED following the industry trend to just get more preorders with this announcement with the promise of value added content in the future.

If the information about the game is to believed, we don't need more content anyway. I have read there is endless amounts of stuff to do. Adding expansions is a bit excessive if you ask me haha.

They do call it expansion pack. Expansion packs actually, since the Season Pass contains two of them.

Edit: Sorry, the Expansion Pass contains two Expansion Packs. There is no Season Pass, or my reading fails me (which won't be that weird).

expansion pass name ARGG Still feels odd to me but take that pass out and call it PACK would sound more bad ass and oldschool

There actually was a hint that something like this was coming.

http://www.polygon.com/2014/11/6/7166933/the-witcher-3-gets-free-downloadable-content-program-as-dev-attacks

When the free DLCs were announced, Marcin Iwinski said in an interview with Polygon:

"If we ever decide to release paid content for Wild Hunt, I promise you, gamers will see why we decided to charge for it," he said. "We'll ask ourselves a simple question: Could anyone feel ripped off when they buy it? If there's even a slightest possibility they will, we won't do it."

He definitely hedged his bet in that interview, so I can't say I'm really surprised to see this.

Oh, I am talking about the boxed/retail version. I love me some boxes, oh yes I do.
What I question is not the decision to make expansion packs. I'm sure they will be interesting, long, and worth the money.

What I question is the timing for such an announcement. Why announce things for a game not yet published? That baffles me.

And it had an effect on me: cancel my decision to pre-order the game and wait for a GOTY. Yeah, it means that maybe I won't play TW3 for another 2 years; but I have such a big backlog that I can wait... and maybe upgrade my rig!

A bad PR decision, I think, as bad as when they fakely announced GOG was closing down.

No, it is a business decision following the example of every other big developer/publisher that are nickle and diming their customers. Unfortunately we are in the minority as you can see from the main GOG store page, the Expansion Pass preorder is selling like hot cakes similar to big game preorders touted on Steam.

Unlike us most people are content to pay first without actually waiting to determine whether the game is really worth it or not, which isn't really a question towards the quality of The Witcher 3 but regarding most AAA games in general.
This is the first time I have seriously considered buying a season pass, thanks for letting us know.
