From my experience with StarTopia there is no need to install anything through winetricks.
At least my ./play.it script does not and the game runs flawlessly for me.

Oh, and while we’re talking about this game, this might interest you:

Kernel version: 3.19.0-58
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750Ti
Graphics driver & version: Proprietary 364.15
Wine version(s) tested: Wine Staging 1.9.5 via PlayOnLinux, CrossOver 15.1.0

Install notes: No redistributable components needed - just install & play.
If using PlayOnLinux, run the game from/create a shortcut for "JK.EXE" (main game) and "JKM.EXE" (MOTS).
How well does it run: Perfect
Details: Tested with virtual desktop and CSMT enabled. Have only briefly tested with these versions of Wine/CrossOver, but have previously done a complete playthrough of the main game using an earlier version of CrossOver without any issues & there's nothing to suggest that this may have changed (things have actually improved, as an override used to be needed). MOTS also appears to have no issues.

Thanks for the confirmation! Is there any repository for your play.it scripts so that I can look up what settings you apply to the games?

So far I'm not sure if I like it so much that it's worth it. But I'll have a look at it, just in case. :)

The best way to get all my scripts in their up-to-date version is to clone my git repository:
git clone git://git.dotslashplay.it/scripts.git

A more user-friendly way to browse them is to go to my website:
./play.it list of supported games

Lastly, there is a GOGmix listing the GOG games supported by the project:
./play.it, for Debian gamers (and their Ubuntu friends)

That's what I was looking for. It's easier to clone a repository than to download and update the scripts individually. :)

I've already visited the web site. It would be nice to have a link to the repository there. Or have I just been too blind to see it?

The git repo is still brand new, I’ve yet to add a link to it on the website ;-)

Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750Ti
Graphics driver & version: Proprietary 364.15
Wine version(s) tested: Wine 1.9.7 via PlayOnLinux, CrossOver 15.1.0

Install notes: As noted in one of the WineHQ reports, requires a different SMACKW32.DLL or videos will freeze.
If using PlayOnLinux, start the game from/create shortcut for "1602.exe"
How well does it run: Perfect once SMACKW32.DLL is replaced
Details: Have only played for a short while (only through all the tutorials & tested starting a new game) but all seems to work fine. Tested with virtual desktop enabled. I used the SMACKW32.DLL from Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II to fix the issue with video playback and that seems to work (the ones from Total Annihilation and Warhammer 40k: Chaos Gate also work, or you can download it from somewhere).

Install notes: Just install & play.
If using PlayOnLinux, start the game from/create shortcuts for "Anno1701.exe" (main game) and "Anno1701AddOn.exe" (The Sunken Dragon expansion)
How well does it run: Almost perfect
Details: Tested with virtual desktop and CSMT enabled. Have only played for a few hours (only through all the tutorials & played a new game for a while) but it seems to work almost perfectly.

The first run takes a long time to start (during which my system appeared to become mostly unresponsive - need to give it a minute or so for this), but it starts much faster for subsequent runs. There also seems to be a minor text/font rendering issue.

I just wanted to add to this that I experienced some redraw errors that led to UI issues on OS X that were cleared up by setting ddr=gdi in winetricks.

Wine version(s) tested: CrossOver 15.1; wine-staging 1.9.7, wine-staging/wine 1.9.5 via Wineskin

Install notes: Part of the Battle Isle Platinum pack. No redistributable components needed - just install & play.
How well does it run: Perfectly (So far.)
Details: Both base game and expansion missions work with no problems, including music, and saving/loading games (only the starting level has been tested so far). The game runs well both in Direct3D mode (it is locked to 800 x 600) and in 3Dfx mode with nGlide (stretched to 1366 x 768), however in 3Dfx/nGlide the game crashes on exit.

If necessary, use the "-addon" flag to start the game with the Wilderness Missions expansion set. (Thanks, blakstar!)

Edit: Amended to include compatibility testing for WINE and WINE Staging.

Game: SWAT 3: Tactical Game of the Year Edition
Installer MD5: 1bbf654c1825a3e5acb05cf42bf71aa8
WineHQ AppDB link: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=3079
CodeWeavers link: https://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/crossover/swat-3
Distro: Mac OS X El Capitain 10.11.4
Kernel version: Darwin 15.4.0 (Build 15E65)
Graphics card: Intel HD Graphics 5000
Graphics driver & version: OS Default
Wine version(s) tested: CrossOver 15.1(1); wine-staging 1.9.7, 1.9.5; WINE 1.9.5, via Wineskin(2)

Install notes: The bunded MOD manager requires the installation of Microsoft Visual Basic 6 Runtime Service Pack 6 (winetricks vbrun6) through the CrossOver Software Installer. Videos/Cutscenes require Ligos Indeo Codec 5.11 (available here: http://www.free-codecs.com/indeo_codec_download.htm -- the installation does not work within the CrossOver Software Installer and should be done manually). To fix the DDERR_INVALIDPARAMS crashes, install DirectX 9 for Pre-Windows XP Games (not DirectX 9 for Modern Games) in the CrossOver Software Installer. (*N.B. I believe its equivalent in winetricks is either winetricks d3dx9 or winetricks directx9)

For best results, I recommend this order of installation:

1) Install the game in a new CrossOver bottle
2) Install Microsoft Visual Basic 6 Runtime Service Pack 6
3) Install DirectX 9 for Pre-Windows XP Games
4) Install Ligos Indeo Codec 5.11 (use the installer from here: http://www.free-codecs.com/indeo_codec_download.htm -- ignore any error messages that occur)
5) Test the game to see if the above works -- if not, try the measures mentioned here: http://www.swat3lastresort.info/index.php/swat-3-video-directx-fix
6) Install the Last Resort mod (http://www.swat3lastresort.info/index.php/last-resort-download)

(1)
How well does it run: Perfectly (Under CrossOver)
Details: With the cutscene issues resolved, the game runs perfectly; save/loading games, as well as Campaign and Mission modes all work as expected, including briefing videos. Issues with flickering in fullscreen reported earlier on OS X are not present. With the Last Resort mod installed, the game supports full widescreen resolutions (I play at 1366 x 768).

(2)
How well does it run: Cutscenes cause crashes (Under wine-staging 1.9.7/1.9.5, WINE 1.9.5)
Details: Despite measures such as replacing cutscenes with XVID-based replacements, installing the CCCP Codec Pack, and winetricks directx9/d3dx9_36, the game still experiences crashes with cutscenes as described in the SWAT forums. The best step is to start the game with the -nointro flag and avoid any menu choice that triggers cutscenes. Sadly, this severely limits gameplay options.

Edit: Amended to include compatibility testing with WINE and wine-staging.

Game: Beyond Divinity
Installer MD5: 855921665ea5357a7f445d550c0cbe84 setup_beyond_divinity_2.0.0.9.exe
WineHQ AppDB link: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=4529
CodeWeavers link: https://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/crossover/beyond-divinity

Distro: Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 64bit
Kernel version: 3.19.0-58
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750Ti
Graphics driver & version: Proprietary 364.15
Wine version(s) tested: Wine Staging 1.9.5 via PlayOnLinux, CrossOver 15.1.0

Install notes: Requires quartz (if using CrossOver install "DirectX 9 for Pre-Windows XP Games" and then change the DLL override for devenum to "Builtin (Wine)" or it'll crash), or videos will not play.
If using PlayOnLinux, start the game from/create shortcut for "div.exe". Run configtool.exe to configure display resolution etc.
How well does it run: Perfect
Details: Played for a few hours with no issues, seems to work just as well as Divine Divinity does. Tested with virtual desktop and CSMT enabled.

Install notes: Requires d3dx9_36, devenum, quartz and wmp9
Start the game from/create shortcut for "Divinity2.exe"
How well does it run: Perfect, as far as I can tell
Details: Tested with virtual desktop and CSMT enabled. I've only played for a short while so far but it seems to run great - looks fine as far as I can tell and gameplay is very smooth maxed out at 1920x1200, however one of the Wine reports mentioned it crashing sometimes so be careful & save often.

Runs better in Wine than it does on Windows for me at least; I tried testing it on my Win7 install to compare with its performance in Wine however on my Win7 install it CTDs (without giving any error) before even reaching the main menu :(

I also tried getting this running in CrossOver, but it's a lot more hassle to get running properly with that - best to use regular Wine/Wine Staging for this one.
