Rise of Liberty. I don't know if I can call this game good, but it pretty awesome. Watching canons firing at the advancing enemy line is so cool.

I so wanted to like that game... but it just wouldn't let me map the controls to a PS-style gamepad. I don't think I even got past the first level.

Maybe you should give KB+M a shot? I've actually played it on console long before it popped up here, and I found the standard PC controls way smoother and easier to handle than playing with a gamepad.

Joypads are useless, on the PC, especially when a game supports the Keyboard+Mouse combination so well :-P

P.S.For your "mapping" needs try antimicro. I use the tool to map the controls of a very old MAME version to my recently purchased arcade joystick, and it works flawlessly...

I wouldn't exactly say useless. It all depends on the game in question. Frankly, I couldn't be arsed to ever play a platformer without a gamepad. It just feels right, and some of those button combos are incredibly awkward to pull off via keyboard.

Absolutely not at all :-P

I play platform games on a keyboard since the DOS era, and it's the best controls I can use for an error-free experience except for an arcade joystick. For me, playing the likes of Prince of Persia (1), Flashback or other 2D side-scrolling stuff without a mechanical keyboard would be fucking blasphemy :-P
Well done captain Harrison!

Prepare to die first on your very next mission! =P
It's now official that PoE is the only free to play game I've ever liked. Atmosphere, voice acting, music and visuals and game mechanics equal to anything you need to pay for. And it's absolutely not pay to win, it's impossible to pay to win. Almost finished part one (Act 5). Don't think I'll do the end game, but will finish the 10 story Acts for sure.

I seriously need to start that.
It's been installed for two months now.

I think I get intimidated by character builds.

I just started by picking a character I like and pick skills one at a time as points became available, taking what I found useful from the available slots (or would be useful in the very near future). I found it wasn't necessary nor did I plan a certain build in advance. Just start and go with the flow.

It got me al the way down the first 4 acts, until the game bored me when after a long, long journey, the story takes you back to the shores of Wraeclast at some point, at the beach where you start the game only more powerful and with more powerful monsters to defeat (that was what bored me, I've been on that beach months before, yet now I had an ever toughing going there because the monsters where of a way higher level on the same beach then those months before when I started the game).

*edit: but I had lots of fun inbetween. It's a great recommendation. But for me the game would have been big enough (and my progress would have finished the game) without the two (maybe it's even more now?) expansions.
