System overclock: engage.

System Shock: Enhanced Edition, the seminal horror FPS/RPG (or "immersive sim", if you're being fancy), has been further enhanced with the Source Port free update. It's also 50% off until September 17th, 3 pm UTC.

The game has been rebuilt from its original source code and it packs some pretty shocking improvements, including 4K resolution support, official support for fan missions and mods, smoother camera rotation, improved control scheme, support for both Direct3D and OpenGL, mouselook support, plus it fixes some of the bugs still scurrying about since the game's original release!

That should be enough to make even Shodan smile. Before she tries to kill you again, of course.
Will we get the Linux and Mac versions as well?
EDIT: link was to a wrong page, that of a new System Shock. What's up with naming new games the same as old games? It's bloody annoying.

Magmarock: I dunno, sound's like it's either a problem with Wine or Linux to me.
Definitely Linux, I have the same behaviour when playing any MIDI music, not just in Wine.
This is awesome!

rampancy: shockolate (the Mac and Linux source ports stemming from the FOSS release of the old Mac PPC code) doesn't seem to work with the new data files and data structure of the Source Port Update, but I expect an update to come shortly.
I don't think so, although I haven't checked the new update (extremely slow internet connection at the moment), but the developer announced some time ago that it would use the Mac versions's assets. Shockolate is based on the souce code of the Mac version, but a lot of time and energy was spent to make it work with the DOS/Windows assets.

That sounds like a lot of improvements for the game. Thanks for the (free) update!

But after such a major game change, please keep the installer for the previous version available for download, GOG!
My post seems to have been overlooked, so I'll ask again.

Can anyone tell me how to set the mouse option for left-handed use, in this source port version?
The way it is now, the mouse buttons for 'Interact' and 'Attack' are backwards, so it's really awkward for use lefties to play. ) ;

Also, how do I turn off mouselock?

I am not sure about options for left handed use but to turn of mouselock use the E key

I loved this game as a teenager but the controls were just so awkward even back then, especially since my left hand has some paralysis. I never got far in the game simply because of the controls being beyond my hand's capabilities and had to content myself with watching my brother play.

Now its functionally playable on M&K due to the mouselook with a lot of effort (THANK you, source update), but I'd prefer controller maps for the combat/exploration, and only switch to m&k when needed.

However, although the ingame maps recognize the actual buttons on the controller, I cant get it to recognize the thumbstick axes.

Should I just use Xpadder or one of those for that, or is there a way to get the ingame maps to read the thumbstick axes?

I'd just like to say thanks to the updaters too, you made this game playable for me.

Thanks greyhat. I hate that mouselock, so it's good to turn it off. ( :

Unfortunately, I still can't figure out how to set the mouse option for left-handed use, so the game is unplayable to me.
Really disappointed NightDive removed this option in the Source Port. WHY? It's a step back to the 90s, when games didn't allow for left-handed play.
That's one of my fears for their new System Shock, whenever it comes out - no left-handed play.

I'm pretty sure, your gameplay video looks to be smooth. But what make you say that your version doesn't look like the one from the trailer?
