gbaz69: Worse case is both you and the gifter getting suspended from steamgifts and steamtrades.
It depends on how you two handle this, and/or how sg staff reacts to what information one or both of you give sg support.
There are several solutions:
a) giver can possible try buying a region free version to give you, and then give that key to someone else.
b) giver and you can agreed to ask for a reroll, and you getting something else via chatting/messaging.
c) etc.
babark: If I'm not mistaken, didn't Steam recently make all purchases from specific regions (I suppose where games are much cheaper to buy) region restricted? That might be the problem. In which case, (a) wouldn't work at all.
Yes certain regions are locked into their own region stores now but the giveaway creator seems to be from poland not sure if they have the same restrictions as BranjoHello has.
@BranjoHello add the giveaway creator on steam , find out where he purchased the key from then we can know what sort of restriction it has. And contact steamgifts regarding the matter.
Since the quake 4 giveaway went well i am guessing this is one of those retail keys that works in most regions except those that have local currency steam stores.
Steam gifts allows region restriction giveaways to be made but a proper warning should be provided to mention what region members cannot enter , in this case i am guessing the gifter did not know that it was region restricted.
I request all members from now , if you are doing a giveaway that involves a cd key rather than steam gift please mention the region restrictions in the giveaway like marci here has done.
http://www.gog.com/forum/general/steamgiftscom_gog_gift_club_v3_giveaways/post7867 http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/Ugg9l/dark-souls-prepare-to-die-edition If you do not know if the key is restricted or not just mention in the giveaway where you got it from aka gmg, bundle etc so people entering might have a idea.
Steam gifts rules were broken but i am sure they will sort this out peacefully.
