Sachys: Actually some games do provide installers - Darksiders for instance. Really need to get a list of them together as well to compliment this one.
Really? But Darksiders won't work without the client. Or are you talking about the Deathinitive Edition of Darksiders 2?

No, the first Darksiders... and I'm pretty sure it does work without the client - or did last time I downloaded it. Might be wrong on the latter though

You can see in the screenshot, the installer even remains in the directory after downloading and installing via the client (so does not go "POOF!" and vanish or become encrypted somehow like with Gamersgate stuff). though, the second I realised it was there I made a backup copy of course.

Yup.

Theres quite a lot of games that give installers - a lot of the Russian companies do (such as Buka and 1C) for some of their games, older games also (I think I've got quite a few from bundled Retroism / Night Dive releases - as an example).
The problem about finding them is remembering to check the directory immediately after downloading and BEFORE installation as some of them vanish after that. Hence my list of "certified" installers is pretty small - as I usually download / install in the wee hours.

Eradicator, Madspace, NAM, Z.A.R. (and possibly the first Red Faction and other Night Dive/Retroism games) all come with an ISO of the original disc. Still, that's the first I have heard of an installer that is directly accessible from Steam's installation folders. Especially for a game that required Steam even in its retail version.

GOGBEARS ARE HUNGRY!
Twice I've tried to reply - third time lucky?! O_____o
...Just realised you can check the "downloading" folder to see whats being downloaded (ie an installer etc).

I didn't know that. Sounds like it will be a useful list.

Aye - started one ages ago, but lost it when my HD blew last year.
You can play the steam version of the red baron pack without the client. In fact for red baron 3d I didn't even need to do the copy/paste thing.

As far as I remember the Darksider Installer only installs the additional soundtrack and the manual - will have to test this.

BTW: Darksiders 2 deathinitive edition can be played without the client but I have not managed to change the language without the client. If someone should find out how to do this I would be very grateful.

Just tried doing so with no success. It gets me an application error if I run it without the Steam client outside its folder and if I delete the steam_api.dll, it complains that the dll can't be found. As for the installer, it seems to do what MarkoH01 posted above. Namely:

It also installs a comic.

What if you run it with a steam_api.dll from a known DRM-Free game? Divinity: OS and Rise of the Triad 2013 are 2 examples.

Too late. I already uninstalled it and I won't download 10 GBs again just to test this theory.

Since I have this on my external HDD I can test it on weekend if you like.

If you are curious, go ahead, but I don't really care all that much, since I have the game here, as well.
