I was having issues with Star Craft, the loading screens and cut scenes too.

What I did was redeemed my disc versions of SC and Brood War at Blizzard's site,
and installed the game, without installing the most up-to-date patches (1.61).

That solved the color issues, both the original game and the expansion work flawlessly
without having to do any editing.

You can download the patches from Blizzard's site too, I have them, just didn't install them
at least until I finish the campaigns. It might not be what you are looking for, as a solution but
it worked well for me. :P

paladin181: Some people are paranoid about registry fixes, and with good reason.
In case of reg files you can actually clearly see what they do with any text editor and can easily read up on this fix to confirm that it's harmless and is actually pre-applied for several games in any Windows 7 installation already. And many of the very same people who are scared of these perfectly harmless registry changes are the first to suggest using an executable compiled by someone somewhere on the internet who doesn't reveal his real name anywhere. It really has nothing to do with reason.
It could be a different issue, but my colour problem was fixed by setting the computer to 16 bit before playing the game... simple fix.

F4LL0UT: I don't know why people keep suggesting all these clunky or otherwise awkward methods while the registry fix works perfectly fine.

Fenixp: Because the resolution window thing is by far the easiest one to explain :-P

Besides, my suggestion is quite simply "Upgrade to Windows 8"
Here I am playing Dragon Age: Origins in the mean time and Elenarie still has not appeared. All right I am just gonna redeem the CD -Key for Starcraft on Battle.net.

Can you post a link to the site where I can redeem my Starcraft CD-Key so I can get a Free Drm free digital version?

What I said.

And does that mean nothing will change since its 1.51?

Elmofongo: What the title says. Anyone can post me a link to a mod to fix the colors?

Also I tried fixing the colors through Properties > Compatiblilty and applied 200 something colors and still nothing.
I guess you have the original game, if so go to Battle.net and redeem your digital copy of the game.
It's DRM free and has the color issue fixed out of the box.

Dude, seriously
Did it and its downloading. Thank you very much.

I assume the same works for Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3? I already have Physical CD versions of Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3 installed. Diablo 2 works perfectly and so is Warcraft 3, but the only problem WC3 is having is that its cinematics is too brightened and I can see the brightness over the wide screen line.

Also for Diablo 2 does it come with the Lords of Destruction expasion already or I have to download both?

No, there are some fixes and changes for multiplayer when it get's patched to 1.61,
but the 1.51 version doesn't have any issues that I have found.
The most important thing for me was to clean up the loading screens and especially the cut scenes,
so it doesn't bother me to not have it patched up to the latest version.

I'm halfway through the Brood War campaign. After I finish it, I'll try installing the correct patch.
(If you have Brood War installed, you install the Brood War patch, otherwise install the SC one).

Edit... to find the games (Diablo II too), look in the Legacy Games section of Blizzards site.

Edit again... Yes, I did the same with Diablo II, and installed the patch they have
(you really need the latest patch!). And I also have the Lord of Destruction expansion as well
installed right now.

I just redeem the CD key for Starcraft on the Battle.net website and its downloading (1 gig, that must be big for Windows 98 PCs back than)

coxdr: Try this. Open notepad and type

taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
starcraft.exe
start explorer.exe

hit save as and at the bottom pick save type as all files.

name the file anything.bat

hit the save. put the new file in same location as the old starcraft exe. use that to open starcraft from now on. If you want you can go further and make a shortcut for the file you can place anywhere.
Shouldn't you pause after starting starcraft? In my experience, I needed to pause, because if not, the explorer started with the game and the script was useless.
