Elmofongo: Best character of the TNG crew in your opinion?
avatar
Breja: Picard and Data. I know it's the obvious, unoriginal answer, but they are the most interesting, with best episodes and best actors. Then Worf, a cool, complex character, and Riker, who is very likeable, the kind of guy you'd want to hang out with, and still would follow as a leader to hell and back.. I don't care much for Dr. Crusher, and I don't like Troy. She's just mostly stuck up, with an air of thinly veiled arogance about her.

avatar
Elmofongo: Best Episodes to expect, just mention names not plots.
avatar
Breja: Oh, so many. Q Who and Best of Both Worlds, obviously for Borg. Measure of a Man and The Most Toys for Data. Chain of Command and The Inner Light for Picard (one of the three best Trek episode ever for me) and finally Darmok, my favourite episode of the series, and of all Star Trek.

avatar
Elmofongo: Worst Episodes to expect.
avatar
Breja: Rascals. Just... no. As much as I love this show... just no. It's not even "wacky" it's just silly on the level of "the knight from Monty Python should show up and wack everyone with the rubber chiken".

And Shades of Grey, though it's hardly even an episode. It's a clipshow of the first two seasons, put together because of writer's strike back then. This one you really can skip, there is nothing there worth anyones time.
Wow you never hear writier's strikes these days. Most writers or director's would just leave in defeat.

Telika: Also, I love it. But I'm slightly deranged. AND I love 60s whackiness.
avatar
Breja: Me too. Also, if you reject 60's wackiness, you might end up rejecting The Prisoner, one of the best and, beneath the wackiness, most serious an thought provoking series ever.
I have seen the what the Episode, Rascals, is on the Star Trek Wiki.

My reaction:

Not even The Original fucking Series, the show that gave us the most whacky episodes ever, went as far as turning the cast into children. And the closet thing they did was a virus that rapidly aged them to old age.

And I liked that episode. But Rascals... not only is the premise stupid, but it only gets dumber as it goes on. It's honestly worth watching once, just to see the sheer WTF of it all. Ah well, I guess it's only fitting for the series that has the best episode in all of Trek to also have probably the worst one.

Right now I am just watching the opening of Star Trek Generations just to see Kirk, Scotty, and Chekov.

Is that actress who played Sulu's daughter really Takei's Daughter?

I doubt it, as George Takei is gay.

Shocker. But eh don't care.

Never understood the guy's popularity. Is it his voice? Is it because he said fuck you to Shatner?

I read that they roconciled. I hope it's true, there is few enough of the original cast still with us, they should stick together.

I hear he did some good work on the gay rights front, and for American-Japanese relations. And he was always very positive towards the Trek fandom, showed up as guest star in one of the fan-made continuations of TOS. Fans always like it when an actor embraces the show and fandom.

"In your position it's important to ask yourself one question......what would Picard do?"

I remember the first season of TNG being a little uneven. Troy made me cringe with how many episodes her psychic abilities stated the obvious. It reminds me of Galaxy Quest and Sigourney Weaver just repeating exactly what the computer says. There are still good episodes, but the series greatly improves as it starts to find its rhythm after the first season.

"Picard, I am going to destroy your ship and kill everyone on board..." "Captain, I sense he is angry..."

True, the first season is much weaker than the rest. It's very obvious the show is trying to find it's way, it's kind of a test drive to see how to make it work. There are good episodes there, but later the overall quality improves by leaps and bounds.

Aren't all first seasons to any show starts off weak?

Samurai Jack is the only show that starts with a bang.

err didnt i say that the first season of tng is wildly uneven you numpties ? ;p
it took till season 3 for tng to get really good and find its own identity instead of trying to be tos with higher production values

Hell on Wheels hada great first season, and then turned really bad. Vikings too had a great first season, and while it did not turn bad yet, it's getting a little worse with every season. Firefly and Kings never got any further than season 1, but were truly fantastic. I could go on, there's a lot of shows that started strong. Some turned sour eventually, some did not.

I have begun watching TNG. First episode in and already I am introduced to Q.

That was fast :P

It''s like if they introduced Team Rocket at the very first episode of Pokemon.
