zeogold: In that case, I'd say it depends on how well they know you.
If they're smart enough to know you're just sharing something funny you found on the internet, that's fine.
If they're stupid enough to associate the guy's beliefs with your beliefs, you might wanna hold back.
They are fairly intelligent and reasonable.

I think my main concern is that this guy is putting his beliefs out on Twitter, which I feel is public enough to make an association between his cartoons and his beliefs.

Ophelium: Didn't mean to ignore you, I'm surprised by the response my question got.

I have used aspirin. I don't know where it's coming from and I'm comfortable not knowing. Aspirin has broad utility though...so I'm not sure what you're getting at.
I am really surprised as well ;)

I have the same problem as you (too many responses) ;)

Aspirin was developed in concentration camps and America decided that Bayer will not get royalty of the formula in the US as it was done with experimentation on those people in there. And a lot of people do NOT know about

EDIT: link with some details

Which will bring me to zeogold, the comment above yours:

zeogold: I think that's a little different. You're talking about actual monetary support (via buying their products), whereas OP is just talking about laughing it up at some videos/comments made by a person. OP might think the videos are funny, but that doesn't mean he's going to buy a t-shirt the guy's selling or something.
Every time you click on youtube you are giving monetary support! That is the crux with it.

EDIT: I hope I haven't missed anything, if so please let me know ;)

tinyE: One thing I want to get out because it has become a rift in my family.

My brother thinks I refuse to listen to Ted Nugent because of his politics.

Wrong.

Ted wouldn't know a good song if it came up and but him on the ass.

That's why I refuse to listen to him.
If Miley Cyrus became a paragon of virtue and helped end world hunger, I still wouldn't listen to her music.

Watching a youtuber's videos is monetary support. Even you use adblock, you are still pumping his views and subscriber counts, which then translates into Youtube's algorithm favouring him, as well as helping him get paid advertisements.

Ophelium: I know this is probably not the best place to ask this question, but there a few people here whose opinion I do respect. I recently found out that a YouTube creator I've really enjoyed the work of supports beliefs that I ardently oppose as those beliefs may reasonably affect me. While his work has not yet reflected these beliefs (he's been on a long hiatus), can you divorce your personal opinion of the creator from his/her work?
nope dont care
as long as they dont aggressively shove their views down your throat via their work
see dave sim and how he went off the rails and how his comic became a platform to showcase his believes

Hm, that's true, didn't consider that (I think somebody said this some time back, but I keep juggling responses so much that I might've missed it).
That's still not endorsement, though. OP isn't purposefully giving him money (i.e. with the t-shirt example) and recognizes that the political part of the guy is undesirable.
It's not as if the guy's making a lot of money just because OP watches his videos a few times.

Slight correction for the sake of it, this number only changes if you DO subscribe ;)

Still not really endorsement in a moralistic sense.
Say for example I'm watching a video made by a white supremacist in order to see what their arguments are all about. Does that mean I support them by doing it? Is me doing so much as even clicking on the video wrong even though I'm doing it to know how to counter their arguments?
What if I accidentally was led to the video, a la rickrolling?

You would be surprised, some people DO make a living of it!

If really interested I would need to do some reaaal digging there, it is quite hidden, but depending on your view-count, average daily/weekly appearance you get some good money. Youtube has its formulas for it and out of this formula they pay you.

YES, see my post just before

EDIT and the only way to avoid it, is getting this kind of information from a 3rd party side, NOT using youtube

...did you even read what I just said?
So if I rickroll you, you're saying you automatically think "Never Gonna Give You Up" is a great song although you hate 80s music?

Is it hard not to like Cosby's shows and movies after everything he's done or been accused of? Do people still enjoy Jared's Subway commercials after he was labeled a pedo? Did they ever like them to begin with? I think it's in the same boat for me. I don't think there are things I could enjoy from people that openly support things I am strongly against. That's a big difference from simple disagreements for me.

A counter that might be valid would be "do you enjoy poetry, art, music, or literature from people that supported slavery?", though at the time I probably would have too. It's more of a matter of if they've violated some basic principle that undermines the quality of their purpose, mission, or humanity. And to go that far means that the things that come from that person will always be a curate's egg that I'd rather avoid.

Aww, I was actually hoping to be rickrolled with Rick Astley...or is that so 9 years ago?

The difference in Zeogold's example and my question is that he's contributing a few cents with one view whereas I have watched his nearly 300 videos (some several times).

It is endorsing if you willingly choose to keep watching their videos.

Even if you do it only because you hate them, and want to be the first person leaving a comment disagreeing with them. All the algorithm cares is you watched and you commented, and that's always a plus.

Hence I refer you back to my post ???? 20 (found it)

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/should_an_artists_beliefs_influence_your_enjoyment_of_their_work/post20

That now depends solely on you. Do you want to give him (even if indirect support) which he can use freely.

...oh.

Well, in that case, I'm going back to my "it's up to whatever you find enjoyment from" pitch. if the idea of "Ew, I'm supporting THIS guy?" makes you feel uncomfortable watching it, watch something different. There's a lot of funny people in the world (just look at the forum).
