REMINDER: This is the 2014 GOG Secret Santa thread - it's a long-standing tradition usually hosted by nmillar. We only exchange gifts of GOG games.

CAN'T afford to buy a gift? No worries - we have extra-special elves but please be sure to check your wallet first cause even one inexpensive game makes a nice Secret Santa gift ;-)

btw, you can be an extra-special elf and still participate! You just need to post your wishlist but also be willing to help out in case any participants don't come through with gift codes - hey it's bound to happen cause life and stuff ;-p

HEADS UP SANTA'S!!

Some people have asked to receive their "giftee" as soon as possible. There are a few reasons why this might be a good thing; (NOTE: This does NOT mean you will get your gift early - I will be sending out ALL the gifts on Xmas day)

1) Peeps are traveling during the holidays and might not have access to the interwebz
2) Peeps want to get their shopping done early
3) Peeps want to have their giftee's list so they can check sales over the next couple of weeks (it might mean MOAR gifts - maybe/maybe not, who knows?)

So, ARE you an early Secret Santa and want to be given a giftee early? ARE you an early Giftee and want to commit to not changing your wish list (you may add wishes) in order to allow your Secret Santa extra time to shop for you?

PM me if BOTH conditions are acceptable to you and I'll send you a match over the weekend!

ALSO - if your name is in BOLD and has the word UPDATE next to it in the OP list of Secret Santa's, do me favor, willya? Update the post link I sent you via PM with your wishlist. The sooner you do it, the less I'll need to remind you (and we ALL know how we hate our Momo bugging the holy, living crap out of us to clean our rooms ;-p)

Step-by-step instructions (cause I love a numbered list ;-p)

1) Post in this thread BY December 14th, 2014
2) Include your list of wishlist items, OR include a link to your GOG Wiki wishlists OR send me a PM with your wishlist BY December 14th, 2014
3) Send me an email address if you'd like your gift sent that way. Otherwise gift codes will be distributed via GOG PM.
4) Upon receipt of your Secret Santa giftee (which will include a link to their post that has their wishlist/Gog wiki link OR the list of gifts provided via PM), go buy your giftee a gift or gifts - it is up to you how much to spend but EVERY gift matters no matter how small.
5) Send me the gift code to the email address listed in my PM to you OR you may send the gift link to your own email address and THEN send it to me by GOG PM. You need to do this BY December 20, 2014 so I have time to collect and collate everyone's gifts correctly. IF I do not have your gift by 12/20/14, I will be asking the extra-special elves to fulfill unfulfilled wishes but please make sure you do your part and don't expect our elves to pick up a lot of extra slack!
6) On Xmas day, I will PM or email participants their gift codes - please bear with me as I will be traveling that week and with timezones I will do my best to make sure your Xmas is bright and happy with a shiny new GOG game ;-)

Original post about how the GOG Secret Santa works:

Since nmillar hasn't been around and cause grargar has been bugging me and because traditions are important to keep up with, I thought I'd get this party started for 2014!

With around 4 weeks to go to Christmas, it's time to get the annual GOG Secret Santa up and running again.

Like last year, you'll be randomly assigned a person to buy a gift for. I'll contact you with a list of games to pick from for your giftee. An email address will be provided shortly for you to send the gift code to or you may email yourself the code and then PM me the gift link. The GOG Secret Santa (me) will then distribute all the gifts on Christmas Day.

To participate, you'll need to provide a wishlist AND commit to buying a game for someone else AND provide an email address that your own gift will be sent to (if you don't want to supply an email address, your GOG PM will be used).

You can either post your wishlist on the GOG Wiki (add the link in your post), post your list in this thread, or PM me the list of games you're interested in being gifted. Please provide a mixture of game prices so people have a choice about how much they want to spend!

Any questions? Post them here, and I'll do my best to answer them!

~ I'll need some extra elf action for those I cannot match up, so if you wanna be a last minute, extra-special elf to fulfill secret santa orders on 12/23 to 12/24, you get the Momo, extra-special love and hugs ;-p

If I may - deadline for participation is Dec 22, you'll match peeps on Dec 23, and distribute gifts on Dec 25, yes? When's the deadline for sending the gifts to you? I assume Dec 24. This means that participants will have about a day to go through their giftee's wishlist and decide what to get them. IMHO, that's not a very solid plan, especially given what day Dec 24 is.

If you go through previous Secret Santa events hosted by nmillar, you'll see that they were planned a bit differently. Might not be a bad idea to follow that format. :-)

Glad to see this coming around, since I didn't join up until the spring and missed out on the fun last year. :)

I haven't even logged in to the GOGwiki since I created my account there 3 years ago (only reason I know it was 3 years ago was because I just logged in now). I don't even remember how to import/update my gameshelf from GOG.

But I might be interested in doing the Secret Santa, regardless.

I think you should look at Friday, December 12 as the deadline for participating and supplying a wishlist. That gives you that following weekend to get everyone matched and the wishlists sent out to the appropriate people.

Deadline for receiving the gift codes could be either Saturday, December 20 or Sunday, December 21 - that gives people a whole week and potentially two weekend promos (depending on what GOG is running for promos next month) to get their gifts purchased. It also gives you a few days before Christmas to chase the stragglers and arrange any last minute gifts by the designated rescue people.

It's a bit more spread out and should be a lot less pressure for you, Momo. Hope that helps. Sorry to butt in! :)

Have you considered using Secret Santa Organizer for this giveaway? It might reduce your workload :)

Edit: Not only does it randomly choose recipients, it also allows GOGlodytes to create a wishlist for their secret santa to see!
