Today, we bid farewell to the legendary post-apocalyptic 2D classics.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we needed to pull the three classic Fallout games, that is Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics, from sale and remove them from our DRM-free catalog. These classic titles have been with us since day one, that is for over 5 years now, and they were always one of the highlights of the selection of games that we offer. There are very few titles in the history of computer role-playing games, that have had so much impact on the gaming landscape, players' expectations, and even the popular culture. The iconic setting, the memorable quotes, and unparalleled amount of fun and challenge these games provide--it's all burned in the memory of a whole generation of gamers. Probably even more than just one generation. It was an honor to have you here, Fallout. Take good care of yourself out there, try not to mistake a gecko for G.E.C.K. (not even remotely the same thing!), and remember to take your Rad-X pills!

All those who acquired Fallout, Fallout 2, or Fallout Tactics on GOG.com prior to the date of removal (that is before Tuesday, December 31st 2013, at 3:59PM GMT), will still be able to download the games' install files (as well as the bonus content) via the "My Games" section of their user accounts. Gift-codes for these three games acquired in our recent giveaway are no longer valid. However, if you own a gift-code for any or all of them that was purchased outside of the said giveaway, you'll still be able to redeem it in the foreseeable future.

We sincerely apologize for all the inconvenience this situation may have caused you. We invite you to browse through 671 other fantastic titles offered in our DRM-free catalog of the best games in history, and we wish you a Happy New Year of gaming!

Isn't this a bit too aggressive. I mean if everyone would do such things to anyone whom he thinks is not behaving properly, third world war should follow immediately. ;)

Thanks for the links. Especially the first one is really good.
Is this the first time games have been delisted from GOG catalogue or were there others? If so, what were they?

HypersomniacLive: And that was the studio's mistake and that seems to be the problem more often than not - why rely on (oral) promises that are not turned into legally binding terms for both sides?
This happens more often than you think. It happened at the Fortune 500 company I work for, and we lost not only tens of thousands of man-hours but hundreds of millions of dollars (we are big enough that this wasn't quite catastrophic, just annoying.) Who was responsible for making these handshake deals, whether legal was ignorant or negligent or actually in on the scam, are all highly interesting topics around the water cooler but no one seems very keen on digging hard enough to find the truth.
Huh. Well, I had better hurry up and download my "bonus content" then. I actually have the three-in-one disk for these titles already I can't even remember where I had picked them up from. Just wanted the bonuses. Sad to see the titles yanked off the GOG site though. They are truly great older titles that did so many things right.
My friend told me about this today, and I was both a little afraid that I wouldn't be able to download my copy of FO1 and more than a little ashamed of Bethesda. I love this company and wish them the best, but they can do better than this. I hope that this move is revoked or at least make this a one-time thing.
Sincerely,
-A Fallout Fan.
This is really bad news as I wanted my brother to finally play these games...

It just feels wrong for them to keep people from experiencing classic CRPG games like these, so I hope something will happen on their end to return the Fallout series to GOG.com. Keep up the excellent work you do here on the website!

drakkar123: Interplay could decide to try and re-license them again (yes, they are still around contrary to popular belief).

fronzelneekburm: Considering the legal brouhaha between Interplay and Bethesda, I find that option even less likely than Bethesda finally realising that selling a bunch of 15 year old games DRM-free isn't such a bad thing after all.

Also, if Bethesda were to ever license the rights to another company, I'd certainly hope that company would be inXile Entertainment. After all, inXile are the true successors to the Interplay of yore and they also offer their games on gog.
I agree that it doesn't seem very likely, but I wouldn't say it is not possible. My point though is that regardless of how, it is possible that the games could return to GOG at a later time. Then again they might not, but I would prefer to be optimistic and I hope to see them back at a later date.

Yes, some of the original Black Isle developers formed up at InXile, some are at Obsidian and some have been re-hired by Interplay and again are with Black Isle. They are spread all over the place actually, but the majority are at the places I mentioned. Bethesda does also have some history working with Obsidian too, but that is only likely to be relevant if they decide to have a 3rd party develop another new Fallout title for them. If any other company had any desire to license the old fallout games, I seriously doubt it would be anyone but Interplay, but again, it is probably not all that likely, just wishful thinking.

The most likely scenario for seeing Fallout 1&2 return to GOG, would be if Bethesda decides to release them here. That could still happen, and has a much better chance of happening if they have enough people requesting it. So, if anyone really wants to see Fallout 1&2 return here, I would contact Bethesda and tell them. They will eventually listen if enough people hound them about it lol......I mean request it from them lol.
Hmm so the rumours were true... i was off gog for a few weeks and seemed to have missed that chance to add em to my collection... oh well, let's hope bethesda does something good with em, like bringing them back here? Pff, won't hold my breath...

i hate fuckin enterprises who don't give a fuck about player/customers. NCsoft already did this with City of Heroes MMO, and now Bethesda do the same as those korean fuckers. there is much deserved punching in the face that is lost in oblivion.

Soccorro: wow... "Korean Fuckers".
Which is technically exact, NCSoft being a Korean firm, who in addition has displayed a definite amount of disrespect for their customers. This being said, it never pays to lower oneself to the level of those that caused you grief.

~oOo~

Unrelated, for the relations between Bethesda and Obsidian, they were less than cordial, as Bethesda outright tried to make them go under to avoid paying them, and Obsidian publicly stated that they would never work with them again.

Bethesda / Zenimax are just a bunch of scorpions. If you work with them, they'll just sting you in the back - it's in their nature.
