Revolutionary tactics.

Ultimate General: Gettysburg, an effortlessly simple and unbelievably tactical simulator, is available now for Windows (with Mac OS X and Linux versions coming soon), DRM-free on GOG.com with a 33% launch discount.

Ultimate General: Gettysburg is what you'd get if you took deep, complex, intelligent AI and systems - and wrapped them in a simple, user-friendly package. It's the perfect balance between historical authenticity and open-ended tactics, it's accessible but infinitely capable. There are no AI difficulty cheats here, each opponent is modeled to work within a certain set of rules and every advantage it can ever get - you can too. The same brilliant AI design allows you to focus on the grand tactical scheme of things without having to babysit and micromanage your units. Ultimate General: Gettysburg is a Civil War enthusiast's dream, with a detailed, historically accurate map of Gettysburg that's yours to utilise (and learn about). It's also a game that isn't held back by an unrelenting drive to become a bloated battle simulator.

Participate in the ultimate Civil War reenactment in Ultimate General: Gettysburg, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com! The launch discount will last for one week, until Thursday, June 4, at 9:59 AM GMT.

I got this back when it was early access and $10 on steam. It is a really great game and one of the best content to cost ratios you are going to find.

musteriuz: Hmm, at least my wallet's getting safer - it seems that none of the new (not classics) games released to gog these days are compatible with Windows older than Win7. So no purchases for me.

Grargar: This one is compatible.
Thanks for that, Grargar. Since I love Adventure games, but are completely useless at them, I'll add it to my wishlist for when it's available at less than $5.

Bummer would like to watch this but have to get dinner ready... maybe we eat late tonight? ;) Too bad I have plans afterward or we would be!
yay thanks gog! :D
Bought on Steam early access. Insta-bought on GoG. Great to see it here.
As a diehard Civil War Buff I bought this game on Steam.

It a good game, but not as good a Sid Meire Gettysburg and Sid Miere's Antietam. They were released on one CD as Sid Meire's Civil War, and I would love to see that here at GOG.
looks like a really good game

JLH: Looks cool. Anyone play take command or scourge of war? If so how does this game compare?
avatar
Crassmaster: It's much quicker to play. Both of those games drill down into A LOT more detail than this does. It's a great little game, though. The AI can pull some feints at times and won't always let itself be suckered into an ambush. You think you've found a pattern to exploit, then suddenly it swings around and begins annihilating one of your flanks.
thank you for the response! yeah take command/SoW are pretty darn slow games. they're my favorites though. they're deceptively simple at first glance. I actually never uninstall them even if I'm not playing for a while because I always come back eventually.

but this one does look neat. the price isn't bad so I may give it a go. :)
Nice to know, that my personal curse of Steam is still working.
Buy a game on Steam and in month or so it will be released on GOG.

Is this a RTS or TBS game?

Real-time with pause.
I am an strategic game player. The old SSI games (I played them on a C-64) were the best especially when played against another live player. Their greatest down fall, along with many other older games was the coding which was basically a capture the flag game. The AI aimed its forces at the highest point spot on the map. Knowing where that was made your job of defense simple.

This game has done a very good job of creating an AI that can be unpredictable along with being able to adapt to different situations.

The player interface is the easiest I may have ever used.

I look forward to future titles and expansions. Being a History enthusiast, especially strategic campaigns revolving around your succes and failure.

Keep up the good work!
