0Grapher: Thank you. Oscuros was already on my list but FCOM Convergence wasn't.
I've posted your suggestion in the mod thread. :)
I think those large overhauls are great but I'm wondering what's the ideal level scaling mod for a newcomer who wants to add more mods without many incompatibilities and who doesn't want an extreme departure from the vanilla game yet.
I was pondering the same. I didn't use any level scaling mod in my previous playthrough, but at higher levels the vanilla game is pretty ridiculous. What's wrong with level scaling in oblivion is that leveling up is pointless, you never find an enemy that you can stomp to the ground, enemy you can train your less developed skills on, and don't dare to diversify your skills or invest too much time in noncombat skills, because enemies WILL be able to decimate you - they scale to your level, not to your skills.

What is nice about it is that you can be reasonably sure you can explore anywhere without need to keep large list of "TODO explore later notes". Witcher 3 gets away with it because almost everywhere you know the level where you are expected to survive, or at least have "here be still unclaimed guarded treasure" marker on the map. In oblivion, if you don't explore that_cave_you_just_found when you first find it, chances are you will never return.

I found . Can't vouch for it, I'm only level 2 now, but from the description it seems to fix some of the problems of level scaling without being almost another game. Add [url=http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/13879/?]realistic leveling and both of the worst design decision of Oblivion should be mitigated enough.

BTW: I know about GCD/nGCD alternative to realistic leveling, it was mentioned earlier in the thread. But when I looked at my older modded oblivion copy, I DID use realistic leveling. Probably nGCD seemed too heavy, trying to bring some fairness into the formula, and punish characters that want to improve in more than one of (stealth|combat|magic) area. RL is simple and effective, and I like to be master of all if I put enough of work into the training.

Edit: Map Marker Overhaul seems like another of the ESSENTIAL mods that I somehow never discovered before. Sometimes it helps to formulate the problem ("in-game map is mess with regards to explored/discovered difference") and the solution will present itself.

I'm sure mods can make the game +18 for you, with mods you can make the game rated AO+ if you like. The game didn't originally have that +18 stuff to begin with though, the game was re-rated because it could be modded to have that stuff installed on the PC yet all versions including on the consoles went from +13 to +17 (+18 would make it a porn game) which seemed overkill I think.

DampSquib: Way cool, picked up all three........now bring Skyrim.
Yay, my last game to replace with a digi version, sweet, no more dust gathering junk.
Yes, now bring us Skyrim!!

Mattmd3: Yes, now bring us Skyrim!!
I have my doubts if that will happen within the year, or if at all due to how they've made the skyrim construction kit usable only with steam online. Biggest thing I liked about Skyrim and why I bought was being able to switch out the voices to one language (say Japanese) while keeping sub-titles of another language (in my case English) and you have Skyrim anime. That might not really matter to anyone here but the only alternatives are buying Skyrim on Steam or other means we won't talk about

To be fair, you don't see this particular detail in the game in any version, because the characters wear non-removable underwear. You have to install new body models for nudity, and those have their own textures, anyway (and they have to, because the vanilla textures do not even include the lower body parts, censored or otherwise).

Does anyone know how to get Oblivion Script Extender to work with this version? I haven't been able to make it work, and if it can't be done, I'll be very disappointed.

Edit: Should have searched this thread first. Sounds like there will be a fix soon-ish. Thanks!

Kite1024: I remember Morrowind not appealing to me after I started out with Oblivion :)

EDIT: Out of curiosity; Does anyone know if this works with the mods/nexus mod manager?
I suggest Wrye Bash, Mod Organizer or Oblivion Mod Manager. The Nexus Mod Manager technically has support for Oblivion but it's an older title so sometimes there are issues, it should be fine if you don't go crazy with mods though. In my opinion, WB is perfect. OBMM is old but works nicely. MO is supposedly awesome because its virtualization feature allows you to change mod loadouts with a few clicks, but I never managed to get it to work with the Steam version of Oblivion, even following intructions.

What are those "correctif" ESPS on your load order? If those are from the french unofficial patch, you might want to use LOOT to put everything in the right place (patches should come after the mods they alter).

The fix was already done afew days ago, just get the newest files, specially the loader, see:

and

http://obse.silverlock.org/

These worked for me this weekend

MO is not very good for Oblivion - I managed to get it to work, but you cannot use OBSE plugins with the virtual file system, they still have to be installed in the Data folder and you have to change the load mechanism (workarounds tab in the settings) from Mod Organizer to Script extender and start the game from outside MO. It can work, but I cannot really recommend it, it's not worth the hassle in my opinion. For Skyrim, it's a different matter. I would not want to use anything else.
