Where syndicates reign supreme...

Satellite Reign an open world, modern spiritual successor to Syndicate, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with full support for GOG Galaxy achievements and leaderboards! Blow past the corporate ladder at 20% off for the first week.

If you asked half the crew at GOG.com what their favorite game of all time is, a good chunk of us would say Syndicate. While the dirty cyberpunk settings and hard-as-nails gameplay did give us years and years of classic gaming to come back to, Satellite Reign may just be the breath of fresh, corporate espionage air that we've been waiting for.
Satellite Reign, from the very days of its conception, was a modern Syndicate in everything but the name. A gritty cyberpunk world ruled by malicious megacorps, and a squad of professionals prepared to take down the system. You'll get to roam around a huge and filthy, open-world city which isn't just cool, but also gives you a fantastic tactical freedom in how you tackle each mission - there is no one right way to achieve your ends. Between tons of high-tech goodness and customization, there is an ever-present Syndicate feel to the game with one unquestionable improvement - freedom, freedom is in the musty air.

For more Satellite Reign goodness, you can also pick up the Original Soundtrack, Art Book, and a prequel Novella!

Return to the Syndicate, in spirit, with Satellite Reign, available now - DRM-free on GOG.com The launch promo will last until Friday, September 4, 13:59 PM GMT.

Tannath: Having DLC is not the problem. Either sell the extras together with the game and ask for a bit more or sell just the game cheaper and offer a DLC with all the extras (like an upgrade). Selling them like this, one little bit at a time and overpriced, is a shameless cash grab. That's what I dislike.
Indeed, the ideal method IMO is to follow dev/publisher "White Paper Games" example with "Ether One".

Oh man, I'm not a fan of real-time but this one looks so good I'm very tempted to get it anyway.

JaqFrost: I'm really disappointed that 5 Lives decided not to offer kickstarter backers GOG keys. I suppose I expected them to be more like Larian, so shame on me.

tremere110: This is why I will not back a game unless they can guarentee a GoG key right off the bat (or a refund if they can't get the game on GoG).
While I can understand the desire to have all our DRM free games on GOG, is it actually that bad to have some DRM free games through that other store? I know that other store also provides and sells Steam games, but they have also been in the fight to support DRM free games. There have been many games that debuted their DRM free version and their Linux/Mac versions because of the Humble Indie Bundles and the Humble PC and Android bundles.

ChrisSZ: What happened to the Good Old (free) Goodies?
They still come with old classics in varying degree. For new releases you have to pay extra for them and that's how it's been for years. I do wonder why GOG does not carry the Deluxe edition though.

I have DRM-free games from lots of vendors. I just prefer to have them from GOG, which is the one who is staunchly DRM-free. Very few other stores have such a blanket commitment, and thus I reward that commitment with my patronage. Naturally I'm glad that other stores see the merit in it, but primarily my dollars go to the ones who are actively agitating for DRM-free releases, not just selling them because they're available.
Anyone else getting a crash to desktop upon loading the game?

Zoidberg: No idea what this is. Also, when you say it's compatible with those Galaxy features, you don't need Galaxy to run to play this, right?
avatar
Thiev: Galaxy is needed if you want its features, like mentioned achievements / leaderboards. It is not required for playing the game.
OK. Thanks for the info.
It looks very beautiful and definitely interests me, although I'll have to wait since the price is too high for me at the moment.

@GOG: Have you considered taking screenshots from the actual extras, rather than putting screenshots from the game? For example, 2-3 pages from the PDF novella or artbook would be nice so we can see what we actually paying for.
I had ctd as well when starting game with this error:
"
Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
"

This was after installing using normal website gog downloader download.

I don't have Galaxy installed, I uninstalled it since it was interfering with how I keep my games.

I managed to fixed the crash, by deleting the galaxy.dll in the satellite reign folder.

As much as galaxy is required to be able to use achievements and such. It should still work without galaxy (especially since it is still in beta), this should be fixed.

btw. I have drivers and libraries installed and updated. It was the first thing I checked.
Windows 7 fully updated

A question! When you start out the game and create your team, is it customizable? Can you fully customize your team or at least choose from different presets available (Different genders, skill abilities..etc..)?
I didn't get the Syndicate vibe from what I've seen of the game.
The agents look more like they're coming from a fantasy RPG where they are the 'good guys' instead of the impersonal lakeys of greedy corporations they were in the originals.
The enemies look way more interesting though.

This game looks sooooooooo good. Early reviews suggest that it's also a very good game. High hopes.
I backed this, and played the beta. It's very faithful to its roots and integrates newer game-mechanics developments such as cover very well, but it's still a little rough around the edges. Also, the story is weak and most weapons aren't terribly interesting. I'd still recommend it to anyone who's into cyberpunk and/or the tac-RTS genre, though.

Sort of. Basically the way agents and cloning works is this:

-Your team consists of four class-based members (Solider, Support, Hacker, Infiltrator) with ability trees. Discounting the tutorial, you'll always have these exact four characters. As they level up you get ability points to pump into the ability tree.

-You, er, steal people off the streets to plop into those class slots. They have various gender/appearance as well as ability bonuses--the Support agent's signature ability, among other things, tells you what these bonuses would be.

-When an agent dies or the assigned clone is moved over to another agent, their ability bonuses decrease a little. You can use a clone forever if you want, but after enough accidents they won't give you any more ability bonuses.

So you can't for example say "I want a girl with blue hair" in character creation, as there is no such thing, but if you happen to come across a girl with blue hair you can hijack her and drop her into whatever agent you prefer.

I almost backed this one at the KS, but then decided against it. I've been following it though and it does look very promising, so whislisted for now, as I do have a lot of other games on my plate.
How many people is "a good chunk of half the crew at GOG.com"? ;)
