Star Wars: Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast & Star Wars: Jedi Knight - Jedi Academy, the greatest Jedi simulators ever created, are available now DRM-free on GOG.com! You can get both titles up to 77% off in our Star Wars Saber Bundle.

Where Dark Forces II introduced lightsabers and force-powers for the first time ever in gaming, the subsequent sequels blew your Jedi experience completely out of the water. More spectacular powers, and challenging, parry-based swordplay are the mark of these two titles.
In Star Wars: Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast, Imperial-officer-turned-mercenary-turned-Jedi Kyle Katarn's story continues. A dark evil threatens the galaxy again, and Kyle must return to the Force one more time. Once more, you'll walk the path of light, or lean on the powerful tools of the darker side. Once more, you'll wield your lightsaber, face dark Jedi, and mow down entire bases worth of buttery-soft stormtroopers. In Star Wars: Jedi Knight - Jedi Academy, you get to become a Jedi. Undergo training at the Jedi Academy under the watchful eyes of Kyle Katarn and Luke Skywalker himself. Master the force, and choose your weapon. Will you wield the elegant single-bladed lightsaber, confound your enemies with two, or master the destructive force of the exotic double-bladed saber?

Relive the apex of saberplay in Star Wars: Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast & Star Wars: Jedi Knight - Jedi Academy. Available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. The launch discount will last until Thursday, May 7, 6:59 AM GMT.

Matewis: Incredible release!! Tough final bosses from what I remember, especially Academy.

I would say it gets really good as it's ending, mostly because the ending is pretty much a sabre-on-sabre fest all the way through :D
Academy has 2 ending, each with different bosses. The most challenging one is against Kyle - if you pick Dark Side.

Then again, Kyle is cheating. He always wins when it's saber-lock. Once you're saber-locked, you're dead meat. Dislike this mechanic.

Other than that, fun final battle.
I have to admit I've never been a big fan of Star Wars (not that I dislike it, I just couldn't relate to all the hype and fandom), but the Jedi games look like fun. I'm still unsure whether I might like them enough to deem them worth 8 EUR to me though, so what exactly are they like? Can anyone liken the gameplay to something similar I might be familiar with? How long are the games? How are they structured (levels? hub? open world?), do they have RPG elements, how's the save system? And do you need previous knowledge of SW to enjoy them?

Nice. Academy was my favorite, bite sized variety pack. It's a shame they didn't make more games like it.
3 disk copies... steam copy. Now gog copy of jk 2...

tinyE: These games are like pizza; even when they are bad they are still really good.

HeDanny: Anyone remember that movie with John Ritter in it where they ran around in almost total dark, but were wearing those glow in the dark Condoms? Why hasn't that been uploaded to Youtube with Lightsabre sound effects dub?

[ EDIT ]
Found the original scene. Absolutely NSFW. Absolutely Hilarious.

Once you think you might stop laughting, watch it again and imagine Light Sabre Sound Effects.
That thing made me remember this .

Now I can be an oldman :)
*Dark Vader voice* : "Impressive ! Most impressive ! "
Finally they are here, Outcast and Academy!! And with a nice bundle they got! Saber-bundle got almost all my wishlisted Star Wars games inside. Thanks GOG and Disney :)

Wow ok I didn't know that, I don't think I tried the dark side but I certainly wouldn't have assumed that the final battle would be even more difficult. I chose the light side and all I remember is a weird boss lady persistently kicking my butt :P

Not a Star Wars fan, eh? I Don't care for most of the Universe either. I adored the first movies, and enjoyed a few of the games. Knights of the Old Republic is still one of my favorite games.

As for the "Dark Forces" series, the second two seem to somehow fare better. They are really simple games. Just straight up run and gun (or run and force power / light sabre) with some platforming in there to keep you on your toes. Academy has a really short, but totally off tap chase level. I'd almost say it is worth the purchase for that level alone. It really is awesome, stupid fun. That's my brief.

So the Jedi games are essentially Dark Forces 3 & 4? They are third person though, while dark forces is first person, right? Are they anything like Enclave, Blade of Darkness, Rune? Advent Rising, Giants: Citizen Kabuto? Darksiders? Or BloodRayne? They probably don't work with Xbox360 gamepads, do they?

What I love about these games, and what I think separates them from the others you mentioned (all of which I love), is the sabre stuff is so much better. Anyone can pound a mouse button and blast away, but with these games there is actually a reward to learning sabre moves to the point that if you get good enough you can take out Bosses with one well timed strike. Add to that you can choke people, chuck them off cliffs, choke AND chuck, electrocute, confuse etc etc etc, it can't be beat.

Klumpen0815: Yes! I waited for Jedi Knight 2 and 3 here. :)

One thing though:
The game card says

Languages: Audio and text: Deutsch, English, español, français
avatar
Klumpen0815: But the library only says "English".
Hmmmm I am not sure what happened there, I think I was entering this for another game. Should be fixed soon :)

Those are all first person shooters but get a bit like Rune when lightsaber in hand.
The level design of this series it quite good although challenging at times.

Using the force moves makes it a bit like Undying and the telekinesis is simply hilarious.

I have to admit I play it on 'Padawan' other wise I'm toast.
