Best experienced with a mouse.

Ghost of a Tale is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com.

The gritty fantasy adventure has finally scurried out of its In Development mousehole!
In a medieval world of animals, where the Mice have been marginalized by the vindictive Rats, Tilo's search for his beloved will accidentally throw him in harm's way. The little mouse minstrel is not much of a fighter, but cunning, guile, and nimbleness are forces to be reckoned with and Tilo wields them as expertly as he does his trusty lute.
FINALLY it is out!
Gonna play at as soon as possible :)

Cheers to the dev(s)!

David9855: Finally out of Early Access. YAYYYAAYY!
This is the very thing I was waiting for! Insta-bought...Next check...gog murdered my wallet earlier.
Looks so beautiful! ^_^
What's with these super adorable games recently? I can't keep up! ༼ つ ◕◕ ༽つ
So does that really mean it's, like, finished? What kind of total gameplay time can we assume?

(Researched it. Yes, it's supposedly finished and 15 to 20 hours if you make it a really quick run through the game)

A heads up for those with a PC that only meets the minimum requirements: The game has many options in the graphics menu, but no general choice between "High", "Medium", "Low" and no explanation about how these options affect performance, so it's possible that the game won't run smoothly for you on the default setting (which happened to me) and that you don't exactly know the cause. I found that decreasing the texture size/quality can help a lot with reducing or even removing lag and stuttering.

I also noticed a few minor technical things that I would have expected to be addressed in Early Access: The intro is unskippable (which is no problem if you only ever start one new game, but can get annoying if you do it more often while tinkering with the settings like I did). Also, if you've started a game, there's no option to return to the menu and start a new one. You will have to quit to desktop and restart the game from scratch in order to do that. I think the mouse cursor is supposed to vanish if you use a gamepad, and sometimes it does, other times it's still there and interferes with the gamepad controls. Whenever I tried to change the resolution a second time during a session, the according menu wouldn't pop up anymore (might be related to lag due to me meeting only the minimum requirements? dunno). And unless I missed it, there's no tutorial prompt for the jump button (which is "B" on the Xbox controller, not the most intuitive choice). I got stuck in a pool of water and only managed to get out when I found out in the controls menu that the mouse can actually jump, too. I guess others might find out without a problem by just trying all buttons (not sure why I didn't), but still, if sneaking is explained and you get button prompts for interacting with things, why is the jump button kept a "secret"?

I haven't played a lot yet, but other than this perceived lack of last polish, the game seems quite nice!

8-10, or double is you explore everything... but I suppose true gameplay time is bit more since it's, well, excellent game.
This one looks gorgeous.

People who have played it: how are controls? Is the difference between mouse/keyboard and gamepad really that significant?

I haven't played much of the game, but I just gave the M+KB controls a try and they seem fine. Like I wrote above, at the moment I actually have trouble playing it with a gamepad, since it often keeps switching back to M+KB controls. Maybe that's just on my rig for some unknown reason and for everyone else it works fine, but for me playing with M+KB and no gamepad plugged in might be less of a hassle right now until this bug is fixed or there is an option to ignore M+KB controls. On the other hand I'd enjoy using the gamepad more, but if you're used to M+KB I guess you should be fine.

Just note the other technical issues I encountered, described in the post above. The game is great but in its current state and on my current rig there are too many smaller issues with it on the technical side that mar my fun. If I had bought it on Steam, I'd probably have asked for a refund by now ...

(That's not to say you will have these issues, too, or that you shouldn't buy the game, I'm just providing a slightly different view from all the enthusiasm, based on my personal experience. It doesn't hurt to be a little more cautious than I was before buying.)

lolol, good one

im concerned they recommend gamepad rather than keyboard, ive been burned so often by bad keyboard mechanics in games designed around controllers, will wait a long time on this one until reviews have settled, tho it looks like a perfect game for my tastes
For anyone interested, mouse and keyboard controls are the following:

Movement: WASD (in relation to camera, so e.g. S is not moving backwards but moving towards the camera)
Free Camera: Mouse (so you can also choose W + Mouse as movement)
Jump: Space
Run: Hold Left Shift
Sneak: Hold RMB
Interact: LMB
Select item: Turn Mouse Wheel
Equip/Unequip Item: Press Mouse Wheel
Throw Item: E
Drop Item: F
Inventory: TAB
Map: M

The controls are re-bindable (maybe except for the item selection/equipping ones, couldn't find those). Contrary to when using a gamepad, when using M+KB there are no prompts on what keys to use (e.g. when standing in front of a chest it only says "HIDE", not "HIDE (A)" - as it says for gamepad - or "HIDE (LMB)". In general the M+KB buttons seem more intuitive than the gamepad ones though, or just as good. Can't say whether there are sections later on in the game that make gamepad the better choice.

Looks neat.

I'm already all set to pick up Dying Light on Friday once I get paid. Might as well grab this, too.

Edit: and then I'll somehow end up re-watching "Secrets of NIMH" for the nth time this weekend...
