MarkoH01: Ah - so they did not crop but stretch the 4:3 cutscenes. But since it is switcheable it's not an issue for me. The missing outlines in the classic release which are back in the remastered release, improved walking speed and the improved sound (which I could not hear yet but the originals is really badly mixed) are enough for me. :)
I think I'll get it too. :)
I just hope there's a mode where nothing is stretched.

He said you can switch to 4:3. Since this is the original resolution nothing should be stretched in this case.

And yes: the low pixel screen in the trailer really seems to be too extreme - maybe they just wanted to demonstrate that there's a big difference.

SirPrimalform: That might be the cause of the stretching I perceive in the attached shot.

All the graphics are as we wanted them to be in 1996 or at least more closed.

16:9 is because when we created the original this is what we wanted but for tech reason the wasnt release in 16:9, so we wanted the game into a look of cinemascope

But if you play in 4:3 on and your screen is 16:9 we added black borders, but if you play in 16:9 and your screen is 16:9 we dont added borders.

Thanks
Thanks for bringing this game to GOG, iI rarely buy games on day one, but with this one I couldnt stop myself.

I saw that, I was just a bit thrown by
for technical reasons we stretch the original game to 4:3
Which made me wonder if the gameplay was stretched in the 4:3 mode or something.

And as I said - looking at the saloon pic it really looks great.

Unfortrunately there is no perfect way to turn 4:3 into 16:9 if there is no 16:9 material available so you did what you could. Some people however just want to get their 16:9 screen filled no matter the correct aspect ratio (which will puzzle me until the end of my life). So yes - as long as you can switch it, I am on board. Thank you so much for the detailed explanation.

Buying now!

And all the achievement hunters should not forget that the game also have added achievements which weren't in the classic release as well ;)

So is a long story the game original run in half of screen of 4:3 so 4:1.5 and the rest was the items and so and so, and then we improve the performance and sctretchd to fit in more space in the screen.

Any particular scene (from the beginning) you would like me to do a screenshot of?

(Installing right now)

No worries, I'm going to buy it myself in a bit. Thanks for the offer.

Gualbert: snip
Just tried the game a bit.

1) Nice that you can chose any language subtitle combination you want.
2) Not so nice that the German localisation has problems showing special characters "ß" in the attached screenshots in "Schließ" (bottom left verb). This should be fixed.
And while we are on it. German translation for resolution is "Auflösung" not "Lösung" - it really seems as if there are no good translators in this world for indie devs anymore :(
3) There is no simple 16:9 / 4:3 option but rather the possibility to chose a certain resolution.
4) It is not nice that the menu is not looking correct whenever I chose a 4:3 resolution.
5) In 16:9 mode cutscenes and gameplay are stretched as persumed. I've made 4 screenshots. Two in 16:9 (classic mode and remastered mode) and two in 4:3 resolution for potential buyers.
6) No manual save possible or I could not find it.
Edit: There is no manual save available as confirmed by the dev but I was wrong about the single save slot. The game auto saves pretty often (explained further down by the dev) but it does NOT overwrite previous saves.
7) At least one sentence in German is different from the spoken sentence "Quatsch, das geht doch gar nicht". This issue is absent from the original release.

Edit uploaded one screenshot from the scummvm release as well.

No linux and no scummvm support means I am not buying this :(
OMG!
Thanks.

ssokolow: Playable on a 600MHz OpenPandora under x86-on-ARM emulation running Wine (a Win32-to-POSIX translation layer) not being one of them.

Is there any chance we could get a Zip full of ScummVM-compatible resources as an extra?
avatar
Gualbert: Sorry I have no idea what is this :(
Let me explain. The original release was playable with scummvm and therefore compatible with Linux. To do this you needed to copy some of the original files (only resource files no executable since scummvm used its own way to launch the game) into a folder and let scummvm point to it. This is not possible with this release anymore and therefore it does not run with Linux anymore.

Never heard of this game but would be interested in trying it. Hate the look of this "remaster" though. I really hope the original graphics (or a copy of the original game) are an option.

EDIT: Breaking ScummVM support is an absolute no-no for me. Even Double Fine's remasters could let you accurately play the original versions through ScummVM with a bit of legwork on your part. I don't think I'll buy this until the developer/publisher decide to include the original game running through DOSBox as an option.

These "remasters" are never necessary and create more trouble than anything. I don't know why they bother with them other than to maybe create the excuse to jack up what would be a $5 - 10 game to $15 - 20 -- but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

None of these are dealbreakers for me but they're disappointing nonetheless - particularly the save issue. I hate it when adventure games don't let you save multiple files.

Hopefully the devs will add the original game as a bonus for those of us who'd rather use ScummVM or DOSBox.
