A truly stellar action-RPG from Soldak Entertainment!

Drox Operative, a starship action RPG with warring alien races, fierce space battles, a dynamic, evolving galaxy, and co-op multiplayer, is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux on GOG.com. You can also enhance its already impressive universe with the Invasion of the Ancients expansion! Both are 50% off for the first week.

Drox Operative sends you on a mission to explore a dynamic and evolving galaxy, as a powerful emissary of a long-extinct race that used to reign over the stars. You will discover a unique sector of the galaxy in every game, each time with different enemies to encounter, ship components to upgrade your vessel, quests to complete, and even different alien races to meet. You'll take part in the eternal galactic war between various cosmic factions, and battle hundreds of different enemy starships. Outfit your dreadnought with thousands of components and crew to become the commander of the deadliest (and coolest!) spacecraft in the galaxy!

Prepare for the action-packed space-opera experience of a lifetime - get Drox Operative and its Invasion of the Ancients, today! The 50% off special release promo will last until Tuesday, January 6, at 10:59AM GMT.
Wait...I think I found it. It is a Steam link though you don't need to belong to Steam to use these. God knows I don't.

sahornback: There is a Player's Guide that might help here: http://www.soldak.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5556

tinyE: That guide appears to be unavailable but I'm sure I'll find others, if I need them. It seems like a pretty nice game to just experiment with so long as you don't mind starting over a lot. :P
I think it's working now. Sometimes Steam stuff hick-ups and won't work - which is why we love gog
Figures, I finally got it on Steam and it comes here XD Going to get the GOG version for sure, like I did with Din's Curse.

gbaz69: I'm new to reviewing games, can we not edit/update our reviews?

Because I planed on coming back to my review after I put in more game time and play other space games to make comparisons.
Unfortunately we cannot.
Nevertheless, the progress on which the review is based is stated and you describe enough aspects of the game.

Thanks.

gbaz69: After making it all the way to max level on two occasions (and never actually winning... :sad face:) I never came back.
Does Drox have a levelcap? I'm asking because I'm not a fan of rpgs in which one can reach the max level long before one finishes the main story.
Nice looking game might get in future.
I just tried the demo and it's always the same thing with these space games: I look at it and think it looks cool, and when I try it I have no idea what anything means.

G-Doc: @k1bell, had I not known it was coming here, my reaction would have been pretty much similar :-)

It's a great game, and pretty unique. One more reason to love Soldak :-)

Phc7006: Still, maybe pass the word to whoever is responsible for the game profiles that the screenshot could include the shipbuilding module, the quest screen and the sell/purchase screen to show there is more to it than a space shooter of some sort. I almost bypassed it but had the curiosity to check the web for more info, and immediately revised my initial assessment.
I agree the screenshots are a bit samey, I might have just skipped past this one except I double checked on steam and noticed generally favourable reviews, including metacritic ones.

Wishlisted and might buy it after I've had a good night's sleep to dream it over.
Looking over the mods, wish I could get that 8 points per level (instead of the 5 points per level) without sign'ing into yet another forum. Guess I will when I get some spare time.

Well, can gog remove my reviews, at my request? ~seriously, we need to be able to edit our reviews...

There is no main story. Some some minor plot with randomly generated/assigned quests and so forth, which is ok, but a main story could of enhanced the game so much more for me.

And regarding level cap, again my memory is fuzzy, and the level cap may of increased since I last played it and I may have not actually been "max level" I do know I was at least 50 on a couple of ocasions (god the grinding).

And I'm sure you can beat it without reaching max level.

For now you can just vote here.

I think they will remove your review if you ask for it. Send a request to support and write them the reasons you want this removal.
Looks like exactly my type of game. +1 to viperfdl for linking to the demo - going to try it tonight to see if this is something I'll enjoy.

Thanks to Soldak for adding to your selection here on gOg, and thanks to gOg for working to get these releases.
Looks like some wishes need to be completed: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games#search=drox
Reminds me of Solar Winds a bit (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HypxJ1_uwMQ). Loved that game, though I don't think this one relies on skill as much during battles.

Still, I'll probably get it.

Now THAT is a game we need here. I haven't played that in ages.
