Kingdom, Camera, Action!

Deliverance: The Making of Kingdom Come, a documentary about the creation of one of 2018's most complex RPGs, is now available DRM-free on GOG.COM.

Not my kind of a game, but more game-related content is always welcome!

MarkoH01: "Making of documentarys" such things are usually free bonus. But there might be fans of the game willing to pay additional money for it - I am not one of those.
In case of Bethesda it is definitely not a free bonus.

For example,
Making of Oblivion (bonus DVD) was included only in Oblivion 5th Anniversary edition and in Oblivion Collector's edition.
Same can be said for Skyrim.

Would be nice to have those^ here, by the way. ;)

Oooh, a new movie...

Enebias: People always bought "the making of" for movies, often in very expensive special editions, so I really see no problem here.
No interest, no purchase, simple.
Very expensive special editions often offer much more than simple making ofs. The regular making ofs are in most cases as bonus even on the vanilla release. There might be some pretty informative and long making ofs you can only get if you buy the special edition though. (That's my experience as a DVD and BD collector - don't know if it is the same with games though).

Sir_Kill_A_Lot: Backers of the original Kickstarter campaign got the Making-of-Video + OST for additional ~$8. Proper making-of videos cost money to make. I don't know why some think they are entitled to get it for free.
The fact that backers had to pay as well only means that they wanted to take money for it from the start. It does not change the fact that normally such material is meant to promote the product and therefore given away for free. Just look at the making ofs videos from The Witcher.

Btw: I don't feel entitled to get it for free - I just said what's usually the case.

Eight Dollars?

Wow, I guess recreational weed is legal there. You have GOT to be high thinking people will pay that for this.

I didn't back it on KS but it should at least be free to backers. I'd say half price for owners of the game but that would still be too much so whatever.

tremere110: Almost forgot that the movie section exists.
I seem to have some movie there, but I have never bothered to download it. I don't even know why GOG bothers with the movie section as it seems to be mostly filled with stuff you'd normally see in Youtube for free.
Come up with the title Yoda must have...

Oh right, GOG had movies at some point. Would love to see the movie section come back, with at least some moderately well-known titles.

paladin181: $8 to watch them jerk off about how awesome their game is and how much fun they had making it?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHAHAHA

HAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I'm a big fan of the game-you are right though, hence why these things are usually given out free as they promote the title. I understand special edition goodies ect but the price for this is just too out of the realm for me for what it is. One I'm going to pass on.

No really? I know you aren't stupid but this makes it sound like you think game development is done with pure love and game developers who want to be getting paid are greedy scum.
The whole purpose of Kickstarter is to get as much money as possible upfront to design and make a product.

avatar
MarkoH01: Just look at the making ofs videos from The Witcher.
Just look at most other video game Kickstarter projects: You get the game for x and the game plus goodies for >x.

Digital goodies may include OST, art books and making-of stuff. This is not uncommon.

Especially the making-of stuff may be released for free (like you said), but this happens at a much later point in time (e.g. the Broken Age documentary is now available on YouTube).

Or maybe it's because you mostly see the free stuff and never bothered for pre-order stuff etc. People may pay for this to either support the cause or to get this stuff before others.

Please don't put any words into my mouuth I never used. I never said the devs were greedy I never even said that they SHOULD give this documentary away for free. All I said is that in my experience those things usually come as a free bonus. Even the fact that I say that they wanted to get money for it from the get go does not contain any statement about them being greedy it only says that they wanted to make mopney for it. I did not critizise it I just said that this is no argument for explaining WHY they take money. And just for your information (and I still don't critizise what they did) I know at least one indie dev who made a making off completely available for free to watch on youtube - and I am talking about a three man team here. So yes, it is possible. But again: the value of the product imo pretty much depends on the depth of the documentary. Most making ofs are (again experience) not much more than a PR product and paying for PR simply is not my cup of tea. That is my opinion only - I never said something like "please don't buy, they are greedy" or anything similar. It's just MY opinion that for me in most cases making ofs are not worth paying additional money.

I can just repeat what I already said: some making of documentarys might be worth it but in most cases they are just PR and I would not pay additional money for PR. Also in my experience you often get making of documentarys for free on youtube. Just to make it perfectly clear: this does NOT mean they should give it out for free, it only means that I am not their target group.

Again: Please tell me when I told people to not buy. I just said that I(!) won't buy. Let me quote myself here:
"But there might be fans of the game willing to pay additional money for it - I am not one of those."

I really don't understand why you are feeling attacked by me. I only stated my point of view and my own opinion about PR stuff you have to pay for. I did not critizise it, I just said that I am not one of those who wil buy those. I even added that "some people might be such big fans that they would want to buy it" ... so I just stated things as they are - nothing nore and nothing less.

Yeah, I'd love to see an actual critical documentary on a video game's development, one where the devs are given complete free reign to say whatever they like including saying what went wrong. I tried watching the Pillars of Eternity documentary and damn the whole thing was so cringey to watch, just a bunch of guys patting each other on the back over how awesome their game is and how development was so smooth (even though we know that PoE had a trainwreck development and was one of the main reasons Chris Avellone left the company).

I have this on steam due to being a kickstarter backer. That said I would prefer it here since steam does the streaming thing (and my bandwidth is rubbish). I'd much rather do the gog download thing and watch later. I've already spent a fair chunk on the game so, will wait to see if this finds itself on special at some stage.
I love documentaries, regularly scan them in netflix and amazon. This looks very interesting and I have enjoyed other movies that I have gotten here like Ink and The Frame. Its weird how Gog abandoned this feature. Im already accustomed to extras being monetized in new games so this is not a shock to see. wishlisted for sale cuz 8 bucks is too high for this,
high rated
Just to be sure here. Making of is free for eligible backers with Knight tier or higher. Please check the Kickstarter to see what tier you pledged for.

The primary distribution platform is Steam, but eligible backers are more than welcome to contact our support to get the GOG access instead.

Thank you for support and Merry Christmas!
