Hellfire expansion is now available as a free add-on for everyone who purchases the Blizzard classic Diablo on GOG.COM.

Originally developed by Synergistic Software and released in 1997, Hellfire was not an official Blizzard product and did not carry Blizzard’s endorsement or label. Despite that, in response to Diablo players who have expressed a desire to experience the content, Blizzard has given the OK for it to be included as a free add-on with Diablo purchases on GOG.COM.

Hellfire offers a non-canonical single-player storyline where players must defeat a powerful demon named Na-Krul who is threatening Tristram. The expansion also adds a Monk class, new weapons and items, new missions, locations, dungeons, and enemies. Hellfire will be accessible while launching the original Diablo.

The Hellfire expansion comes with high-resolution support and compatibility updates to allow it to run on modern systems, and it’s available now as a free add-on for everyone who purchases the Blizzard classic Diablo. The game is currently 10% off during the Summer Sale Festival until June 17, 10 PM UTC.

Ixoliptis: That was ...unexpected. I'm actually wishlisting the game (till I clear my backlog) because of this.

Given that it actually happened ; is there any chance of adding Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon expansions too?

Great job nevertheless gog

Edit: Typos.
Ghost Recon is definitely a game high up on my list I would hope for more expansions too - definitely add the Rainbow Six expansions too while we're at it :p

dudalb: Email Blizzard, not gog.

jalister: I'm not sure how it works now, but years ago I activated my digital version on battle.net using the key from my CD version. If you have your key, try that.
I actually bought the game from Blixxard when my Diablo 2 cd got scatched, and surprisingly the only DRM is a code you have to type in when you run the game installer. One installed, you do not need to be connected with battlenet (of course if you want to play online is another story)..If you back up the installer and the code, you pretty much own the game.No drm would be preferable, but that is livable.

They should have the entire original Rainbow Six series....The first gamt through Rainbow Six 3. After that, thye real dumbed down the series to just another shoot em up. When they threw out the planning ,they lost me.

rainydaygaming: This is even more of a surprise than the GOG release of the base game.

Edit: GOG, could you make the expansion optional? I'm not particularly fond of Hellfire and would like to be able to play without the add-on.

Ashleee: If you want to install the game without Hellfire, you can rollback the game by unchecking auto-update in GOG GALAXY :)
Hi Ashleee! Wondering is there any chance of making multiple versions available in offline installers? In other words, for us dedicated non-Galaxy customers, is there any chance of having the last version (prior to Hellfire) listed with the offline installers, alongside the current one?

Diablo was an "insta-buy" for me and I encourage people to download original releases' offline installers off the page right away, but I am thinking of those who didn't get it in time. For those that missed the original release, and do not wish to use Galaxy, it would be nice to have the additional option with offline installers.

Really 'cool' or should I say hot stuff. Thank you so much for the link. Now looking for more by them.
Thank You GoG and Blizzard !!!!

Don't regret buying this on launch on GoG, and still have my original boxes and disks for it (and the other blizzard games). Like many, I was one without access to the Hellfire expansion.

Already played long hours in recent years.
Already played some hours with the GoG launch.
I guess im off to play this now :)

Thanks!
Now waiting for at least Diablo 2: LoD!

StarCraft we already have the remake on Blizzard, but i would buy again to have the original experience with better support and newer patches.
WarCraft III we are getting the remake next december through Blizzard too, but could buy support for the original too.

I hope thats incentive!

They aren't remakes. They are graphical remasters. People with just the original can play with people using the remaster. There is literally no gameplay difference.
I forgot to do this on my first post here, but I just wanted to give a MAJOR THANK YOU to Blizzard and GOG for making this release happen!

I remember asking for the Hellfire expansion for Christmas yearsssss ago when I found out no one I knew owned it, and I couldn't find it at retail. Thank you for fulfilling a wish from long ago! Now I can finally play the expansion without hassle :)

joppo: Thanks Ariaspi. And sorry for the mixup Kingbradley
No worries, pal! No need to apologize! Thanks for the consideration and the polite manners. You are one of the very, very few people who showed me courtesy. I appreciate it, very much.
oh f*** me! i didn't realized until now that my Diablo was updated with hellfire expansion!!

Despite the fact that I fully support the wish, I do not understand what the problem is in this particular case.
Just choose the version you need (Diablo / Diablo (classic) / Hellfire) in the launcher (I mean Diablo GOG Launcher ofc., NOT Galaxyt).

I agree. I haven't played a Rainbow since 3 because apparently one of the goals of the fourth game was to strip away everything that made the series special. If they make a new one with planning mode I'll get it but I doubt they will.

ChrisGamer300: thx GOG and Blizzard for adding Hellfire and listeing to your communities wishes and even though i personally don't care much for it, it's still good to see it here and it does add come nice QoL improvements for free no less.

Now please bribe blizzard, use your silver tongue and do whatever it takes to bring D2 LOD here :p
avatar
hedwards: I'm sure it's coming eventually, they probably want to make whatever sales they can on D before they bring that here. D2 is just all around a better game than the original was.
I think I already said this to you in another thread back when Diablo was first released, but I admire your optimism on this matter. Personally though I still don't really see why Blizz would sell D2+LoD here since they already sell it on their own store. Is there any value GOG could add? Doesn't D2 already run fine on modern machines?

For sure though, whatever other Blizz games GOG can get would be great, including the freeware titles already on Blizz's site especially Lost Vikings 1+2.

That would be amazing, especially if GOG did the job to configure the games and make them run in modern hardware. ;)

Ahh... Lost Vikings 2 SNES port, not the 3DO version made by other company, plus the original game as a free bonus.
Guys, an help.... i copied my previous character from diablo.sv to diablo.hsv ( save0 obviously ) and i notice now my character doesn't leveling up anymore. I'm doing the entire dungeon from the beginning. It's why the creatures are too weak, or it's for another reason?
