GameRager: proc'd?

Aside: I was actually going to compliment your new avatar....weird that you brought it up. 0.o
Activated, like if in a game of diabo, a Goblin hits you and activates your ring of Frost Nova.

But also, thank you. It's from a furry comic, is all I'd declare.

Oh, thanks for clearing that up then.

idbeholdME: Of course. But tastes of other people shouldn't be high on your priority list.
avatar
GameRager: What if one has similar tastes/beliefs and likes finding kindred spirits? Also sometimes it's fun to find new things to like/dislike/etc or to choose to give a damn about. That also makes life more interesting.

(If you mean we shouldn;'t let other people's opinions/tastes make up upset/etc or take them too seriously I agree)
Yes, mostly that.

People will always have their own opinions/tastes and there is nothing wrong in talking about them. But overreacting when you find a disagreement (and you will encounter them a lot) does literally nothing and both sides will most likely end up annoyed at best.

So by not giving a damn, I meant not giving a damn not in general but when people like/dislike something that you do/don't. Just accept it and move on.

moobot83: just cos something is a billion dollar industry doesnt mean its good, ie alcohol and tobacco industry

DadJoke007: Who are you to say that tobacco and alcohol aren't good? On what arbitrary scale does one measure "good"?
The problem is the marketing, which employs psychological warfare.

Most companies do this to some extent, though(this is not to say what the tobacco/alcohol corps do isn't shady sometimes)...including some game companies.

Psychological warfare is SOP in the world of "big business". It's criminal insanity as far as I'm concerned, and such people are more akin to rabid dogs than they are to human beings -- and should be dealt with accordingly.
I don't care how many flies like shit and buy it too. Most games are still trash.

How many people buy trash fast food that isn't good for them and isn't actually tasty compared to real food? Yet it's so addictive.

"Consumerism" can have no other outcome.

True, but you can;t fault some businesses from turning a profit right?

(In a somewhat decent way, I mean)

Why not?

The vast majority of businesses don't operate in this manner, so we're talking about a tiny subsection that has become a cancerous monolith, much like a pervasive weed that will destroy a garden if left unchecked.

This sounds like a movie villain monologue. "Now Mr. Bond, prepare to meet my sharks with frickin laser beams that will destroy your pesky brand of consumerism!!!mwahahaha!!!1!!one"

That movie had to have been the most hypocritical piece of trash I've ever seen. When it came out, in the stores around here we had Wall-E toothbrushes, stuffed toys, games, stickers, t-shirts, etc. You name it. Ironic bit of hypocrisy that a movie that demonized consumerism made the producers filthy rich off of producing landfills worth of cheap, movie-branded consumer junk.
