A non-gamer claimed that "most games are trash" on the forum, but expressed exactly nothing about why he/she think that.

Facts:
1. Gaming addiction classified as disorder by WHO
2. Global games market value rising to $134.9 billion in 2018. You know, the first video game appeared around 1958. It is zero to $134.9 billion in merely 60 years.
3. mobygames.com already registered 200,000 games. It is 3333 games per year, or 9 games per day since 1958.
4. As of July 2018, a third of people on this planet are gamers.

Any one who have a clear mind know video games are fun.

Fix typo

kbnrylaec: A non-gamer claimed that "most games are trash" on the forum,

Facts:
I get where you're coming from and what your intention was...however, since someone will have to play devil's advocate, it may as well be me: you didn't counter his argument that most games are trash.

Wether most games are or are not trash lies in the eye of the gamer...of every single gamer...independent of all other gamers.
There is no universally applicable measurement with which one could determine whether a game has to be considered as trash or not.

It always comes down to subjective opinion. Even a bugridden mess can still be fun for some.
Even sales numbers alone - while certainly an indicator of financial success - are no criteria by which one can determine the "trash-factor" of a game.
just cos something is a billion dollar industry doesnt mean its good, ie alcohol and tobacco industry

That's actually a good point. Though drinking is fun...at least for a while...then it can get addictive.
I always find it hilarious how people get worked up over mere opinions, personal tastes and even random blurts/rant threads like the one referred to here.

A random person is not happy with the recent games. Oh the humanity!! That definitely warrants making a counter-thread....

Why should I or anyone give a single damn about what games others like or not?
The UN is a bunch of self-important overpaid bureaucrats trying to justify their pay checks, the fact that the agency in charge of the world's health can waste their time coming up with bullshit "disorders" like this while hunger and disease kills thousands in the third-world is beyond words.

Bingo!
This forum could be such a nice place - if people could let "dumb" things just slip by without feeling the urge to chime in.

The irony is, of course, that we stepped into the same trap... ;)
This person was probably just trolling or had only played mobile games. Keep in mind there are people who simply don't understand gaming.

One time, I saw a comment on a YouTube video which said something to the effect of "What's the point on buying a gaming PC/console and paying for each game but I can download thousands of free games for my phone?" I responded by saying there can be world of difference between a properly developed game with an upfront price tag vs a micro transaction, ad ridden piece of shovelware. It's like comparing a high class restaurant with McDonalds on the basis they both sell food.

I also also taking with my mother and she said she didn't understand how men can play video games for hours on end. I ended up telling her it was because video games have challenging and competitive elements which naturally appeal to the male psyche. When faced with a challenge, men more likely to focus on the challenge and try to overcome it rather than throw their hands up in the air and throw a tantrum about a game being too hard.

Who are you to say that tobacco and alcohol aren't good? On what arbitrary scale does one measure "good"?

I've tried to get my mother a bit into gaming as a fun activity for a retired person. But even completely innocuous games like World of Goo immediately and completely puts her off. She's only interested in playing things like solitaire, hearts and the like.
Pretty interesting, since I suppose those are the games she grew up with. Whereas I grew up in the pc and console gaming era.

Then again, I've seen the odd 80 year old serious youtube gamer.

My mum also plays solitair, hearts etc. (the free version that comes with the MS-shop?) - every single day...for hours.
She has the ambition to beat all the games/challenges per day.

It's kind of funny to think, that this is the same woman, who scolded my brother and me, throughout several years of our childhood/youth, because we played computer games excessively. :)

Oh, she also loves HOGs.

I tried to set up those daily challenge things for her, thinking it would be ideal. But I never could get it to work properly (repeated login, account verification problems).

And HOGs? Oh wait, hidden object games? Any in particular you can suggest. I want to expand my mom's gaming horizons a bit and never thought of something like that.

My mom could kick all of our asses in Heroes of Might & Magic III any day of the week. She only plays it on the most hardcore 200% difficulty setting and scoffs anyone who plays it easier than that :D

Well, as a starter: https://www.gog.com/news/release_hidden_object_games_find_their_way_to_gogcom

Edit: Artifex Mundi's games are usually considered as some of the best HOGs you can find.
