Ys VI returns to PC.

Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim, an English-language Windows premiere, is available for pre-order now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 15% discount!

Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim becomes available on PC, in English, for the very first time ever. Ys is an action-jRPG series where your thumbs, combat, and platforming skills will all be tested - the series' focus on keeping combat fast, fluid and enjoyable is as clear as ever. Though the game premiered on PSP and PS2 several years ago, this release can easily be considered the "definitive" edition with a brand new translation, true widescreen support, updated mechanics (including better checkpoints), and support for modern controllers. If you think you've got what it takes - the aptly named Catastrophe Mode may just you be your next challenge. The future of Ys is bright for PC gamers!

Pre-order Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim, DRM-free on GOG.com! The game is expected to launch on Tuesday, April 28.
Finally the last (and first) Ys of the pc trilogy is here.
I played it with the original japanese release and the really good fantranslation (that kept the interest in this series high for so many years). I hope the new translation is as good as that, It would be a bummer if they had changed it too much.
As for the game, is the first pc ys game released and both Felghana and Origin are based on it's engine, so maybe it's not the best of the three. I really enjoyed the story anyway and the artwork are really good.

Really a must play.
My concern however is the price. How come it costs more than Felghana and Origin? Really strange.
great saga !!

i´m been playing the ys games chronologically , so far i played the ones on ds (ys one an two) so eventually i will get to this one.

i know i miss origin but that´s a prequel so maybe that´s should be my next before i continue

Yeah, it's good to see these still turning up but a shame 4 and 5 are missing PC versions - may have to go emulation dark side if I ever get that far (and if there's English translations available) - I've only finished the 1st one so far, not even the 2nd one its bundled with...

Ys Origin had the same price at release on Steam.
Plus, as you've said, it's a new translation (not licensed from fans/Konami nor reused from an earlier PSP version) with new features exclusive to this localisation.

I'll buy this when I get home. I'm usually against pre-ordering, but in this case I know exactly what I'm getting.

Played the original a bit on PS2, so i'm looking forward to when this is fully released... seeing as it's a preorder at this moment...
Preordering Ys on GOG feels good. :3
Okay so we have Ys I & II, Ys Origins and now Ys VI. How is one supposed to play a series where all the games are all over the place. Where is III, IV, V and all the the others that may exist? Can't play I and II and then skip to VI. I know III is on the SNES, but where every other game is I have no clue.

You may be right about the translation, but the new feature was introduced in Felghana and Origin as well so that should not be the reason for a higher price.
Regarding the translation, I wonder why it was retranslated and why in the thread is mentioned the ps2 port. The game is the pc game and already had a fan translation that solved the issue. XSEED already used, to my knowledge, a licensed translation from the person who actually did almost all the translation for the ys games so far (he also translated part of trail in the sky for them). Maybe it's because for Napishtim the fan translation was done by another translator and they didn't get in contact with him about that, but I remember a translation by the above translator was done back in the day and never released so if XSEED is still in contact with him, it would have been more convenient to ask him again. For consistency.

That have always been the issue, but a minor one. You actually don't have to play them in order even if I prefer to do so.
Ys III was remade on pc as Oath in Felghana, so you can go on with that.
IV and V are Snes only release (there's a IV on PCE too I think). They still need a remake, but it never happened.

Ys the Oath in Felghana is the second version of Ys III. I never played the first one but it looks like a completely different game.

Ys I-II aside, all the Ys available on GOG are stand alone adventures (I never played Napishtim).

This should be useful: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ys_media#Main_series

I don't think we will ever see 3 or 4. Since the rights to 4 are a mess since there were two Ys 4s one by NEC and another from Capcom and they own the part of the rights to their respective version of Ys 4. As for 3 as MIKO mentioned 3:Wanders of Ys was remade as Oath in Falgana and from what I gathered Wanders wasn't a popular installment in the series anyway hence why it eventually got a total redo as Oath. It's basically the same game from a setting and story perspective all though Oath is a bit more fleshed out, the only real difference is how they play since 3 was done from a side scrolling perspective as opposed to the overhead view and while I am not one of those who hated 3 I do think that Oath is the better game overall and that we are not missing much having that version of 3 then a straight remake of Wanders.

So it seems I could play the I, II, III on here and then play translated roms of IV and V and not feel to bad about it and then go to VI and Origins. I guess that's better than I thought. Better yet Nihon Falcom should be working on PC releases of IV and V if they aren't already; it would make things a lot easier.

EDIT: so many replies lol. Thanks for the Info everybody. I got a basic understanding of this clusterfuck now.

Nah, those features were already in the original Falcom releases of Felghana and Origin. Catastrophe Mode and warping to checkpoints were added to Napishtim by XSEED. They weren't in the original.

*shrug* Maybe it was simply the best option. Over on the XSEED forums Tom (their localisation specialist and avid Falcom fan) said the new translation is by the same guy who translated Ys: Memories of Celceta and that the result is good. I wouldn't worry about it.

Speaking of Memories of Celceta, that's the Ys IV remake you people are asking for here. Unfortunately it's only available on Vita right now.
Ys V doesn't have a remake yet. They will likely start work on it after Ys VIII is done.
