pmcollectorboy: ... and retro pixel graphics all depends on how it's pulled off. For example, I love the atmosphere of The Last Door.
Off topic, but I've played The Last Door a few months back and I find that arguably its atmosphere is mostly carried by its music, sound design and writing, not its visuals. It's decently creepy and atmospheric despite its "crappy" graphics, not because of them.
Relatively simple 2D graphics, and no Linux version? Kind of strange, especially since their previous games were released for Linux.

I went ahead and pre-ordered. I haven't played any narrative based games but I do tend to enjoy the style of games Devolver publishes.
However, sometimes the developer does not have another chance: it is good that we have Eador: Genesis, to name one.

The problem, more than the pixels per se, is a poor use of the resolution established for the game. Developers of yore usually tried very hard to get the most of what they had to work with. Those graphics were made with great care. They suggested and hinted and delivered. The limitation was more in the technology than in the human resources available for the task (although, admittedly, good quality low-res graphics required less labor than high-resolution ones).

On the other hand we have indie developers whose limitation is not the technology, but human resources. They go straight for low graphic resolutions in order to save labor. The only problem is, sometimes they save too much and it shows.

This leaves us with a take home message for developers: lowering the graphic resolution of your game will save you labor, but only so much. Unless you want your game look like crap.

By the way, it is always good to see a game that tries to be original. Even if it succeeds only in part.
Soo, time to be "that guy"... I'm tempted to get this preorder but I already own Gods will be watching so that's not much of an incentive. Would there be a chance to get anything else instead? The GWBW special edition upgrade is the same price and same maker so that would make sense as a bonus wink wink nudge nudge. Pretty much anything I don't already own would close the deal for me.
Linux version is coming:

AlienMind: I remember the old days Atari 2600 cardridges with cool pictures on it. Sadly, it never was the in game graphics. Then, I dreamt of the time when we could have such nice graphics.
37 years later, you can at large choose between graphics ten times as nice as in my wildest dreams with gameplay flatter than pong, or, superb gameplay but graphics identical to 1981.

Related.. I'm amused about how people got riled with No Mans Sky advertising with different pictures than ingame, but when it's an indie studio it's somehow OK.
No Man's Sky was showing off in-game content that wasn't possible in-game. Cover art doesn't pretend to be game content, even when it's a virtual cover instead of a physical box.

goglin: Game needs more pixels (but seems interesting).

Store page needs less GIFs *yuck*

https://items.gog.com/RSCtrsc-bartendingcopy.gif -> 5.6 mb
https://items.gog.com/RSCtrsc-pottery.gif -> 4.9 mb

Instead of having 13 mb of GIFs on a single page, it would be better to make a proper mp4 which can be viewed or skipped as desired..
Just took those two and converted them to vp9 webm (crf 40) sizes are:
RSCtrsc-bartendingcopy 5,838,115 bytes -> 319,975 bytes
RSCtrsc-pottery 5,105,602 bytes -> 269,733 bytes
Have to admit I don't really understand why gifs are still so popular folks must love 256 colours with dithering.

This game looks interesting but I'm wary of anything that has a rather dark/depressing vibe, yet at the same time I hate spoilers ah well, put it on the wishlist and see if I happen upon the info I need to make a decision.

Indeed...

Once you proceed to checkout, you'll get a message that you already own this game and you will NOT receive a giftable copy. Way to screw your returning customers, Deconstructeam/Devolver Digital! :\
Ah, that's quite bad. As you say,this is literally giving a far better deal to new customers than returning ones.I know it's somewhat bad etiquette to bring this up but Steam does give you the extra copy. I was quite excited about this one and leaning towards giving in and preordering but this has turned me off of it.

Wether it's GOG or Devolver that's responsible for this one you people really need to reconsider this pointless, counterproductive decision.

The game's page says it will be released on the 22nd. Check wherever you heard that you'll be able to play on the 19th to see if they've updated their statement.
