Technobabylon, the cyberpunk Wadjet Eye adventure, is available for pre-order now for Windows, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Wadjet Eye, the prestigious paragons of pixelated-but-modern point-and-click adventure game hits, are back with yet another exciting release. In Technobabylon the adventure is set in a dystopian future where genetic engineering is basic surgery, and a good day is a day on Trance. Enter a city controlled by an all-knowing Artificial Intelligence and a terryfing police force, and take control of the game's three protagonists: Charlie Regis, a rogue agent of the secret police force; Latha Sesame, a jobless Trance-addict; and Max Lao, a woman torn between her past and future. Together they'll have to unravel the dangerous secrets of a high-tech society that functions just barely.

Pre-ordering the game right now means a free upgrade to the Deluxe Edition, and its batch of goodies when the game is released:
-- Full soundtrack
-- Recording session video
-- Production art gallery (concepts, 3D models, full-size portraits, etc.),
-- Technobabylon Codex (PDF with backstory)
-- Poster art wallpaper

Pre-order Technobabylon, the retro cyberpunk adventure, now on GOG.com! The game is expected to launch on May 20, 2015.
Wadjet Eye has produced brilliant titles again and again. I am normally against pre-orders, but hey, I also Kickstart a lot. Makes sense to pre-order this one especially because it does contains a "free" upgrade to the Deluxe edition.
Slick mareting there, sounds a lot better than a pre-order discount :-) .
Wadjet-Eye...Now don't you dare disappoint me. ;-)
It will probably be years before I get to play this one, given my considerable backlog.
That's life I guess, priorities tend to shift from time to time.

The rest of the backlog can wait. When point-and-click / story adventure games come to my hands they always find a nice place in the "next" section.

Same sentiment here. And, well, now that I think about it, I've been needing to play a new point-and-click for months, now, I love replaying the ones I own, but even I have my limits and it sure is time I get me a new one...

Still, right now I'm going through Ys VI (I've been waiting a *long* time for an official Western PC release of that one!) and I preorded Not A Hero because it looked right up my alley (I'm a sucker for Super Time Force Ultra kinds of games), it comes out on May 7th and it doesn't leave me with much time to play my dear point-and-click adventures...

Let's see if I can extend my game budget a bit, then... :P
Another adventure by Wadjet Eye Games? That sound more than interesting. This will end in my shelf one day :)
I really like Wadjet Eye Games, but their games are getting really pricey as of late. Ever since Blackwell Epiphany, their new releases have doubled in price. This makes me sad.
It's not by Wadget Eye, its published by Wadget Eye. The authors are the ones behind Nancy the haooy whore.
Cyberpunk adventure with the 90s feel? I'm in

ThePunishedSnake: The authors are the ones behind Nancy the haooy whore.
Although it would be preferable to say the author of Nancy the Happy Whore is the one behind Technobabylon, as (the freeware) Technobabylon was there before Nancy and Nancy really pales in comparison to Technobabylon. Maybe not a good idea to promote a real gem of a game with something as average as Nancy. ;)

Leroux: That's not the upcoming commercial release, but the old freeware version. TechnoBabylon used to be (well, still is) a freeware trilogy, and the freeware version is already pretty good. When I played it and then played Gemini Rue afterwards, I thought this was a perfect story and setting to get the Wadjet Eye treatment as well. And apparantly Dave Gilbert thought so, too. The upcoming game to be released on GOG will be an enhanced and expanded version, that combines all three chapters into one, adds voiceovers, new graphics and AFAIK more story and puzzles, so it's most probably worth your money despite the fact that you can still download the freeware versions (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3).
aha, an enhanced version of the old freeware classic? thanks for the info
well as long as there no annoying effects i might add it to the click and point collection, like i said every game has a nice touch and i am only checking games to see if i can play them without getting 'sick' and have to ly down after playing it because of some nasty visual / sound effects that triggered me.

That why i can never own all the games on GOG , even if i could live to become 200 years, cause theres many FPP games and normal 2d games (with nasty effects and sounds) which will trigger my motionsickness/photosensitivity

Thats also the reason why i am limited in buying retail casual games, some games i have to avoid (thats why is always check a demo game at bigfish)
not because of 3d or FPP but because of some nasty effects that they didnot allow to be disabled in the menu. Luckily, Xulima team has included an option to disable the fullscreen lightning effect at the part where the prince lives , thanks for that goes out to the team.

Ah but will that soundtrack be FLAC or no FLAC. Or will it be all retro sounding and not gain much benefit from lossless?

Their games are getting longer!
Again looking at this game I'd hope indie adventure devs would move towards higher resolutions.

First time I ever preordered anything, my intuition tells me this is going to be a good one.
Or maybe it's not intuition but the fact that I quite enjoyed all the other Wadjet publications and definitely got my money's worth on those, especially Resonance, Gemini Rue, Primordia and Blackwell Deception. With such a good track record, I expect not to be let down by Wadjet, even if $15 is way above what I'm usually willing to spend on any game, be it a super long strategy / RPG game or a not so long point & click adventure.

Hi all! Dave from Wadjet Eye here. Coming out of lurker mode to answer some of the concerns on this thread.

re: the original freeware game vs. the new release

Yes, you have it right. Technobabylon was originally a series of three freeware games. James, the developer, said he had ten of them planned. I met him at the AdventureX conference in 2012 and asked him if he had everything planned out already, or if he was making up each chapter as he went along. He said he had the whole thing planned and showed me his design doc to prove it. I like it so much that I offered him a publishing deal with us - we'd make and release the whole thing as one big game instead of a series of ten episodic games.

So this commercial release is NOT just the original three games remastered. It's the original three PLUS seven more. :)

re: How is Wadjet involved in the project?

In terms of who-did-what: James did the writing and programming. Wadjet Eye handled all the art, music, voice acting and QA.In addition to all the marketing/sales/distribution stuff that we always do.

re: Why did they double their price?

We always sold our games at $14.99, but briefly had a fling with selling them at $9.99 instead (Resonance and Primordia). That price-point turned out to be a mistake, so we raised them back. The logic behind it is long and complicated, but Jeff Vogel did a good job explaining the situation on his blog here. His thoughts echo mine.

re: Can't these guys go higher res?

We've tried in the past. Our attempts at higher resolutions always looked HORRIBLE. We'd rather have good quality low-res than mediocre quality high-res. Currently, the low-res style works for us. So we'll continue to use it.

re: THIS GAME LOOKS AWESOME!

Aw. Do please go on. We love flattery.

Anyway, I'll be checking in on this thread so if you have any more questions feel free to ask. :)

Hi Dave :)

Any news on whether we can look forward to a Mac/Linux version of the game? :)

Thanks for stopping by, always a pleasure to have you :)
