Get your gory kicks, like it's 1996!

STRAFE®, a fast-paced, roguelike first-person shooter with plenty of guts, gusto, and gung-ho attitude, is now available for pre-order, DRM-free on GOG.com!

The monsters are charging you in droves, your weapons are becoming more and more ridiculous, and the levels rearrange themselves every time you die. Or maybe not - it's hard to tell when there's so much blood spatter in your eyes. But who needs a map, when you've got wicked instincts and insane mobility?

Watch the trailer.

Wishbone: Why is this a pre-order? What's the point?
Not enough Digital copies to pass around remember?
avatar
ReynardFox: In most cases it is a bad design decision, even when it's done well, procedural generation in a genre like this is still inferior to properly planned, hand crafted levels.
That's a matter of opinion.

ShaunRoberts: Looks good and I'm definitely getting this once i get my i7, but more importantly why does a quake esq. game need 8 gigs of ram and an i5??? for something that looks oldschool it sure needs a mountain of hardware to run???

Unity. That's what's up with the reqs.

cseba123: I prefer to buy the games I want on release date or afterwards, never pre-order. This time I'm drawn into pre ordering it because of the extra weapon which I personally don't feel as necessary to me, but I don't want to feel I've bought a game near-complete. Is the extra weapon still available as a regular pick up for non-preorder buyers or is strictly available for preorder buyers?
Missed the preorder exclusive.

Not gonna get this one in a million years now.

justanoldgamer: I've seen that gameplay and graphic, or something very similar, somewhere before. Was there a demo?
You might remember it from GOG itself as it was featured on COMING SOON on February 10th.

In fact this was already in my wishlist, and is now about to leave it since I'm not really interested.

I think you are correct sir.
Holy Joe, this thing will get VR support! :-O

One of the bullet points on the store page is:

"Gun upgrades that turn your average tool of death into an outright Holocaust machine"

What an interesting choice of words.
I agree Marioface5 - references to actual genocide kinda put me out of my 'fun' mode.
.... anyways, there's a rumor that the preorder exclusive VV-1N Weapon is more like a kind of a joke. First, there is the name: VV-1N = WIN = "pay to win" .... And the trailer may suggest that the weapon will kill everyone, yourself included:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpC87qQT9RE

The description seems to have some subtle irony:
STRAFE is now available for preorder with the VV-1N weapon that is definitely the best gun in the game and will make beating the game much easier...

I had to chuckle at the absolute outlandishness of that statement.

In regards to old-school FPSes, keep your eyes on Dusk too - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7TLt6iM7OA

Here is the wishlist for Dusk: https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/dusk (props to IronArcturus for originally linking it, below.)

Weird, Wasteland 2 requires less even though its more work put in to it.
Minimum for Wasteland 2:
OS: Windows XP/Vista/7/8/8.1/10 (64 bit)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD equivalent
Minne: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 or Radeon HD 4850 (512 MB VRAM)
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Storage: 30 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX compatible sound card

So seams like this game (Strafe) is badly optimized

More an interesting choice of capital letter. There's nothing odd about using the noun holocaust ("Destruction or slaughter on a mass scale, especially caused by fire or nuclear war" says the OED). As an unambiguously capitalised proper noun "Holocaust", OTOH, it can easily be interpreted otherwise.

kdgog: it depends on what you count as a shooter. If it means the one and only thing you do is shoot, then I'll probably always dislike those games.
To most people a "shooter" is primarily about shooting things. Strafe seems pretty up front about being primarily about shooting things.
