grimwerk: It's a system dynamics joke. The response of a system is sometimes described in terms of its poles and zeros, which are specific points located on the complex plane. A pole with a negative real component (otherwise known as a pole in the left half of the plane) corresponds to a decaying system response, that is, a little turbulence will have no lasting influence on the flight. A pole with a positive real component (a pole in the right half of the plane) corresponds to a growing system response, that is, a little turbulence can set off wildly increasing oscillations in the aircraft.

tl;dr - A pole on the right hand side of the plane leads to instability.

Sorry, it's the only Polish joke I know that's inoffensive to Poles.
You have to be kidding me.
Did ANYONE here get this joke before the explanation, then please respond now :'D

I don't get out much, and when I did, it was with the wrong sort of people.

DrakoPensulo: Just a slight off-topic notice.

As far as I know, so called "Polish jokes" are result of highly anti-polish propaganda spread in the US by Germans who were able to get here after the World War II.

tinyE: Funny thing is they don't tell Polish jokes where I live, just Finish jokes.
reeeaally...? :) Are they about not speaking much and drinking? :)

tinyE: Great, so basically I need an offensive slang dictionary to navigate this thread? :P

99% of the population here is Fin. XD It's a local form of humility.

One of the reasons it's so great being a Yooper; we don't bother making fun of other people, just ourselves. :P

Do you actually know people who understand this joke?

Do you watch Big Bang Theory every now and then? There's an episode where Lennart has to do a talk and he starts it off with a joke.
I actually found this joke quite funny, but only people who understand the relationship between theoretical and experimental physicists can get this joke...

Yes, but only one who really finds it amusing. He TA'd an aerospace course, so he's super familiar with this kind of material. (I'm not!)

My friend banged away at two largely-undocumented particle accelerators (one tandem, one RFQ) for years, and we'd often chat about what the hell had gone wrong today. I probably draw the theoretical / experimental line in the wrong place, because I considered the experimenters that couldn't help keep the accelerators working to be "theoretical".

Unsure whether I'd get the joke or not.
Here's another one then about a Polish fellow:

_What's linear, normed, complete and yellow?
_A Bananach space.
I swear ZFR, your jokes only make sense in a different dimension! :P

F4LL0UT: If it only were that easy to come up with something offensive about Romania. Too bad nobody knows shit about Romania because nobody gives a shit. Unless it's about Dracula. *badum tsh*

Seriously, though, I had to chuckle the moment you proudly admitted that it's your own mastepriece.
Gypsy jokes. :D

Yeah, my German background forbids me to joke about Gypsies. Or Jews, for that matter.
Man, this thread has me ready to wop a pole, depending on how my dago.
