Strijkbout: As for the DRM question, I don't see why making an account to play an MMO is any different than making an account on GOG to download and play games.
Well, what is happening right now with PotCO is the proof that there IS a difference. They shut down the server, so nooone can play it anymore. On the other hand, if GOG shuts down today, I will still be able to play every game I already downloaded, and even install them on some new computer in 12 years. That's a pretty huge difference.
Not to say I would be shocked to see a MMO here. For me, GOG has always been more about getting old games to work on new computers than about DRM free. But since the DRM free crusade has become their main selling point, I don't really see it happening.
P1na: This is what I don't like about all this stories, it's all so fragmented. I love a good story and worldbuilding, it's awesome, but I like to have a way to get into it. It's the same with warhammer 40k: it looks awesome, and they seem to have tons of books and stuff with side stories (some of which are bound to be good). But there's no main story, is there? Such a pity, I have to make do with
this stuff.
For those, the core story tends to be in the game itself, since it needs to be explained to the players and GMs. So the books tend to be about side stories and details. Especially since big, central, game-spoiling secrets will not get much screentime in books that could be read by unwary players.
I imagine that someone who uses these books as an entry point into the storyline will find it very confusing indeed. It's like trying to read the Lord of the Rings Appendix, but not the novel. ^^
