Swedrami: There's one important thing the FAQ that came with the "good news" doesn't cover (at least from what I could gather):

Is your GoG-preorder still going to be honored after those 365 days or not?
If that's not the case (and your GoG-preorder will be automatically cancelled sometime from now on) you basically have to file for a refund, right? Unless, for some reason, you still want Snapshot to keep the money anyway.

sergeant_citrus: Yes, you'll still receive a GOG (or Steam) key after the 1-year period. That cools my jets. As long as I still get it on GOG eventually!
Thanks for the reconfirmation.
Obviously would have been better if this was never something to worry about in the first place, but I'm content with this compromise too.
well sorry for the moderation and forum rules but they clearly can shove a tabasco-dipped cactus up their arse very hard !

i mean, they straight lied to people !
on their crowdfunding campaigne page, they blatantly and quite obviously/proudly advertized for the release of phoenix point on gog and such...
and now they turn their coat too, like many others who are lured by the bribes and goldershower from epic store ?

they can be timed exclusive all the hell they want, i fear the exclusivity of my wallet will be longer than one year

hell, it may even be beneficial to us on gog here: 2k games, who seems to have a rather courteous relationship with gog lately, could even make a move and time a release launch of Xcom 2 here on gog at the exact same time than phoenix poitn on epic

i mean, it wouldnt be impossible to think about it: many gog customers and drm-free advocates who were interested in phoenix point just got clearly backstabbed here, and by the time it got released on epic, the "regular" commercial exploitationspan of xcom2 will have dried slightly more.
Would be fun to pit it against a new (and possibly bugged at launch) released game on a concurrent platform

As far as i go, if i have to choose between phoenix point on epic store or no phoenix point at all, the choice is already made
if i have to choose between phoenix point on epic store, and buy a third time a good game like xcom 2 (not even talking about the expansion war of the chosen, just the vanilla Xcom2) DRM free on gog while i already purchased it twice (pc steam and xbox), the choice is easy too

and anyway, in last resort, there is always... the allmighty dreaded Backlog(tm)

Epic is just undermining everyone around, thanx to the fortnite money they scam out of kids and such... Epic Store created quite a mess for everyone BUT steam (who doesnt care of give a shit, given the unbreakable monopoly and people's inertia they are benefiting from)

Backers will finally get their steam/GOG keys after Epic exclusivity year. Not the best solution, but probably the only possible one, once the contract between Epic and Snapshot has been signed.

4-vektor: “Not the best solution” is quite an understatement. Snapshot’s still giving the finger to all Steam and GOG backers.
It’s kind of telling and hilarious how fast they backpedaled. It seems that the backlash was bigger than they expected it to be.

“Thank you for your interest free loan, we’re going to exclude you from playing the game for one year, opposite of what we promised. All Epic customers say thank you to you useful idiots.

Sincerely unsincere,

Julian Gollop”
Well, Julian Gollop backstabbed us. A few hours later, he casted a healing spell and restored us to full HP. But the scar of that wound will hurt for a long time (at least for a year).
Another backer here, well I'm really dissapointed by this decision by snapshot.

I'm not going to add more to this (since I think other users have cover everything) except: Let's see what will happen with "full galaxy support" after the year of exclusivity...

Screw it. I refunded it anyways. I won't get anything back because of bank fees but at least Snapshot Games won't get to keep it. Go to hell Julian!

Now that kind of integrity I can respect. Digital high five!
You can allways play the Bittorrent version.

>Hi ####,
I am pleased to say that we will be able to offer Steam/GOG keys to backers after the 1 year exclusivity period in addition to the Epic Store key. The Steam/GOG versions will also include the 1 year of free DLC.

I wouldn't say that's a 100% satisfactory solution, but I guess that's the best Snapshot can do for their backers after having signed the contract with Epic. I won't ask for a refund then.
This is some good news for Gog backers, even if certainly not ideal.

omega64: Considering they promised Steam and GOG to backers. It kinda does screw people over?
avatar
misteryo: No. They are offering full refunds for people unhappy with the change of platform.
Btw, do you know what this case teaches?

Than any crowdfunded (only on Fig?) game from now on will be at risk of passing to Epic and of being delayed by 1 year for others stores, despite any promise made beforehand.

So, you'll basically end up supporting a game early.. for nothing.
Just wait for Epic to pick it up and for the normal release on Gog in the future.

misteryo: That's a big deal
That's not a big deal. That's the minimum that they can do. They clearly promised Steam / GOG keys (those shops are still advertised at their Fig page) and they changed it without any need (there's a big difference to other crowdfunding projects that got rejected by GOG).

As a backer I'm really angry and disappointed at the moment. I gave them my money to create the game and trusted them to fulfil their part of the deal. And yet they changed a core promise of their campaign without any need (again a big difference to other projects that failed or couldn't fulfil certain stuff because of technical reasons) and now I have to wait another year before I can play it without the need to sign up to another store and install another useless launcher (which I definitely won't do).

Now I'm just waiting for that one dude to see this, throw a fit and call you a thief.

I can't remember the nick, but you don't need to look for him - he will sense a disturbance in the force and find you.
Edited out.

I've never seen anything like this. Even the Nintendo Vs Sega war of the 90s had rules. Have you been looking forward to games on the GOG Upcoming page? That page is worthless now. A game can become Epic exclusive mere weeks before release, even if preorders were available for other platforms (Metro Exodus). A crowdfunded game can be sold to the highest bidder even as its nearing completion, the promises made to those backers tossed aside (Phoenix Point). There are no guarantees anymore until you actually have the game in your hands.
