StingingVelvet: Exactly. I have nostalgia for them, I like the idea of playing them, but I just never actually do it.
100%. It IS a good genre after all. Monkey Island 1+2 and DotT are games that kick up my nostalgia immediately :)

Atreyu666: Nowadays I'm more an ARPG player, I just don't have the patience for adventure games anymore. I don't dislike them though.

I still intend to play some point'n'click adventure games that I haven't played properly, even classics like Grim Fandango...

...but unfortunately I probably don't have enough patience to hit my head to the wall repeatedly, trying to find a way to get past some tricky puzzles, so I will probably end up reading a walkthrough to get past most of the puzzles.

At which point, it would make just as much sense to just watch someone else play it from start to finish in Youtube, instead of "playing" it myself. After all, the reason I still want to play e.g. Grim Fandago is to see its story and get its special atmosphere, but one does not have to play the game themselves to get those.

I have to admit, I never played a classic adventure completely without help :D
More modern games of this type sometimes have an in-game hint system, like "The little Acre" and such.

There's actually a lot of games I like but really don't want to play myself so I sometimes also watch somebody else playing it, preferrably my favourite LetsPlayers :)

A long long time ago, when dinosaurs roamed the streets and played early video games, you couln't just go online to look for hints or even a playthrough (sure there were e.g. hint books that you could buy or help lines you could call, but those were usually available only for US customers, especially the hint lines).

In a way it was quite fascinating because either you figured out the puzzles yourself, or you heard from your friend, who was playing the same game, how some puzzle could be solved. Maybe partly because of that, puzzle adventure games made more sense, and it was more exciting to hear your friend figuring out the puzzle that you both had tried to solve at the same time, almost as exciting as figuring it out yourself.

timppu: [..]
When my uncle and I first played Monkey Island, DotT, etc, I was years away from my first internet. But as far as I remember we had game magazines with the solutions to the games. I still have the solution for Alone In The Dark here somewhere :)

I think my uncle actually solved Monkey Island by himself first by opening the EXE file with an editor and looking for text that could help :D

Which one? I ended up buying about 150€ worth of games overall. :D

Currently playing Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver which I bought from GOG several years ago, and before that as a retail version, I dunno, two decades ago (which I never played)?
