comradegarry: the 80's (90's) The Elder Scroll Series would seem to me to be a very big event but then again the older TES games are already legally free.. :\
Well I meant OLD D&D games plus Gold Box; that would be very big I think. Unlikely though.

As for TES games, they have a very large number of votes and I think GOG would love the publicity of them even as freeware titles on the site. Plus, do they even come prepackaged in DOSBox anywhere?

That said, those are very much '90s; I don't think TES series had a singles '80s game, did it? Plus it's Bethesda/ZeniMax.

I think we're on the right track with Wizardry or Gold Box/D&D.

Grargar: I automatically ignored the 70s part, because I didn't believe that there ever was a 70s RPG series. Seems like I was mistaken, though I still stubbornly believe it's Wizardry rather than the Goldbox series because it's older.

Gydion: Moar hype.
The way they are hyping this up it would almost have to be old SSI games. Dunjonquest/Temple of Ashpai, although historically significant in CRPG history, doesn't have the mass appeal that SSI does. The early Wizardry games aren't even enough for this hype as there aren't many. Given the hints are: rpg series, 70s/80s and the barely contained excitement in posts about how happy many will be, I cannot think of anything else.
YESS IT WAS (most of) THE GOLD BOX GAMES!!! :D
