Gone are the days of epic expansion packs, here are the days of not-so-epic "DLC". What are the most ridiculous examples of DLC available to gamers ? I'll start with two games, one of which I've already bought, the other one of which I'm pretty sure I won't buy :

1. Prison Architect. The DLC for this is just ludicrous. I've bought the game, however, but without the DLC.

2. Wasteland 2. There are two versions available, the "Classic" and "Deluxe" editions, with a fair price gap between them. Check out the difference between them. Honestly, these guys are great comedians !
INB4 Horse Armor :P

Me well mabye Warden's Keep in Dragon Age Origins on the basis that the storage chest should have been in the camp.

I would say Shogun 2 Total War blood spray DLC, but I have to admit to liking it. :P
all DLC should not exist, i really miss the expansion era
DLC either should be offered to buyers for free or devs should release complete games from day 1

what happens if the DLC was created after the game? I know its a trendy thing to think it's taken out of the game and re-sold. Sometimes it is not the case.

Blame Microsoft for that. There was time when Cliff Blezinski back in 2006 that Microsoft forbade him of releasing Free DLC in Gears of War 1 like free map-packs.

They made some odd decisions back then. Shame too, it was a great game.

Well, that's a bit of an overgeneralisation. Discrete expansions that you can download are still DLC, but can be worthwhile all the same.

DLC for skins and non-essential items in single-player games are pointless but harmless. If people want to waste their money on them, I don't see why not. It doesn't affect those of us with common sense - in fact, in an ideal world, it might actually mean that those of us who have an ounce of common sense pay less for our games (wishful thinking, but...)

Where a lot of devs cross the line is with item DLC that confers in-game items without which the game becomes an unnecessary grind or even impossible to complete, placing absentee characters, areas or gameplay elements to hammer home the fact that your game is incomplete without DLC (Dragon Age: Origins says hello), stat-boosting microtransactions that are designed to make an otherwise unbearably grindy game halfway bearable (Dead Space 3, Forza 5).

This means that "freemium" F2P basically disqualifies itself as a legitimate business model. Either a game is equally playable to all (payers and non-payers), which 99% of the time means that the enterprise is unviable commercially, or a game engages in price-gouging to introduce deliberate disadvantages and make enjoyment and success contingent upon continued investment, which is morally reprehensible. In short, you can't make a profit on F2P without being dishonest.

THIS!

I remember going to retail shops checking out boxed expansion packs.

As for most laughable DLC's I think this title puts the Oblivion Horse Armor to shame: http://store.steampowered.com/app/24010/

I wouldn't consider the stuff in the Deluxe of Wasteland 2 DLC. They are paid extras, but not needed to play the game. For me DLC are only things that have an in-game impact. Otherwise for me it's just fluff.

A map pack containing 5 maps, released on the same day as the base game, costing 40% of what the main game costs. Thank god we've moved past 1989.
Assassin's Creed Rogue. They had packs of items that were actually the items you could already find in the game through normal gameplay, the "DLC" just revealed them on the map for you (which is something you could also do through normal gameplay). Really it was little more than paid cheats.
There's actually nothing wrong with having lots of DLC. The problem with Train Simulator (I bought it back when it was TS2013, but existing users seem to get upgraded each year for free) is that the DLC prices don't justify the content.

To recall, back in the days of Microsoft Flight Simulator '98 and Microsoft Train Simulator, there were countless expansion packs available on disc that offered the same sorts of content and were equally overpriced.

There was a game that sold cheats, was it Saints Row 4?
