I also recall seeing Motorhead open for Slayer back in the day. Motorhead was of course loud, but Slayer decided to attempt to go louder. For that show, at least, Motorhead outplayed them. Slayer went so loud the amps were crackling and it hurt their show.

I had that happen at an Ozzy show once. XD Loud can kill a show for sure.

vv221: There’s only one good album in all this according to me:
"Kill ’Em All" by Metallica (1983)

The fact that I don’t like thrash metal has surely something to do with this choice ;)

darthspudius: That album was fairly average. if you don't like thrash you would like their Load and Reload material. Ditches the thrash for a more blues orientated style. It's great stuff.
Seeing as your last musical advices leaded me to know better an awesome band, I’m totally going to follow this one blindly!
I love \Metallica/ so much. It is difficult to pick a favourite album, but I seem to cherish the Load/Reload these days the most. Of course And Justice For All with the title track is also a hammer, song like Call of Ktulu (masterpiece), Orion (oh my god), Whenever I May Roam, wonderful ballads... These guys will never bore me.

To Live is to Die trumps Orion and Ktulu.

That instrumental makes me cry.

Yup, blew my mind when I was a kid, and it still does.

You should get into my website. I spew my opinions on whatever albums and bands that I get my paws on. :P

To Live is to Die is Hetfield's goodbye song to Cliff, as far as I know.

I didn't know that was actually a song. I always thought it sounded like random riffs thrown together with no thought what so ever. Kind of like the rest of the album.

Alright, I'll say it, screw all these bands Testament is the TRUE KING of Thrash Metal ;D

And Testament does Metal Ballads better than Metallica's Fade to Black/One/etc.

Make a petition to change the Big 4 into:

Testament, Testament, Testament, and Testament :D
Could never get into Slayer - their sound just didn't appeal to me.

I've only listened to a handful of Anthrax songs, so haven't formed a concluding opinion on them.

But honestly, we all know the real debate is Megadeth vs. Metallica and, IMO, Metallica wins hands-down. While I can appreciate Megadeth's sound and the technicality behind their play (they have the better musicians, excluding vocals), Metallica have the much more developed and appealing sound. While I'm not always happy with what they've done, I can still find tracks on every album that I enjoy and could easily spend a day listening to them, regardless of the mood I'm in.

Interesting considering the Dave Mustaine formed Metallica. :P
