Also, no mention of Dark Angel?

Elmofongo: So does extremely bombastic classical music like Gustav Holsts.

Breja: No, I meant the names... you know, Anthrax... like the disease... the joke... nevermind, I'll show myself out.
Oh that joke lol.

tinyE: Loverboy!
Winger!
Warrant!
Haha man haven't heard those name in along time. I'll raise you Europe. Such a great band who got mislabelled in the 80s and are still making great albums.
avatar
Elmofongo: It can use better sounding drums and a louder bass.

Testament makes better ballads than Metallica though.

darthspudius: Testament does everything better than Metallica lol. As far as thrash band's go, those guys have some of the best talents. I mean Alex Skolnick would reduce Kirk and James into the ground within minutes with an acoustic guitar nevermind on electric.

darthspudius: The band nearly had to change their name because of that back in the early 2000's. What an odd time.
It's sad that Testament's Formation of Damnation album lost to Metallica's Death Magnetic and Slipknot's All Hope is Gone back in 2008.

I know, it was far superior (though anything better than Shitknot). Though their latest album was even better. I just picked up them both on vinyl. Nothing like thrash metal on wax! \m/

At first I disliked Dark Roots of the Earth when it came out, but than it started to grow on me.

Their ballad made me tear up. Their Rise Up for War makes me want to windmill headbang Jason Newsted Style:

Lost what?
I'd have to choose Megadeth here, even though I do like Slayer and Anthrax as well.

Dalswyn: Lost what?
A Guitar Magazine's Best Metal Album of the year award.

With Slipknot's at 1st place, Metallica's at 2nd and Testament's at 3rd :P

Slipknot winning a guitar award hahaha. Sweet mother of God. As someone loves a good Black/Death Metal album, I find Slipknot to be a load of noise and jibberish. It's truly awful.

tinyE: Loverboy!
Winger!
Warrant!
Warrant was great, yeah the first two albums were cheesetastic but Dog Eat Dog is fantastic with a bit more serious tone, not a bad song on it. Belly To Belly Vol.1 was hit and miss but had some cool tunes and Ultraphobic was a solid album, Stronger Now from that album is a really intelligent ballad, funnily enough it's also really stripped down and bare.

Winger's Kip Winger is apparently a classical composer now, I think he scored a ballet a few years back.

Loverboy? Eh................they certainly were...a band.

Oh yeah, Elmo mentioned Pantera, Glamtera was awesome, better than their tryhard biker metal period for sure (although I enjoy it too).

Nice to see some love for Warrant, they did some good stuff. Pantera on the other hand, their music went from cheesy fun, to rocking hard to typical '90s garbage. Never quite understood the love for everything past their "second" album Vulgar Display of Power.
Among "the great four", the "thrashiest" is obviously Slayer, yet I greatly prefer others such as Testament, Exodus or Overkill.

Nevertheless, my ranking for these are:

Metallica with Mustaine > Slayer > Megadeth > Anthrax' first album >> Metallica (Post Ride the Lightning) >>> Anthrax

I like Slipknot... Says my 16 year old former self xD. I love thrash and certainly like (early) black metal. After discovering and diving into these genres, I quit listening to those guys because they just seemed noisy.

I liked them back in 98 also. I quickly grew up when I discovered Behemoth, Immortal and Vader. :D
