[This is a sticky post, it will be visible in every single page of this thread. It has been published in October 2020.]

Our moderation team decided not to take a side in the discussion since this giveaway thread was created by the community and, as long as there are no forum rules violated, is up to you, dear Gogers, to decide its fate. We will not set giveaway rules, edit the OP's post, nor lock the whole thread.

However, to make it easier for newcomers to understand the situation (about the OP being inactive and other), I will stick my own post right above the first one.

You are, of course, free to create new threads to start anew and make your own, clear rules. At the same time, please stay reasonable when crating them, as multiple new duplicates might make it even more confusing for many Gogers.

That being said, here you can find a post with dxenija's community poll to have better understanding of the situation: CLICK.

At the time of writing, open giveaway threads are:
- Massive Giveaways Blog (this one)
- Free (temporary) keys giveaway central topic.
- Updated Itch.io giveaways

Be nice to each other *flies away*

Be aware that this is unintended behaviour and probably linked to a Steam bug. The steam topic mentioning this method was quickly deleted.

So if you don't care about legality, you might as well just use pirate bay to 'install' your games.

What you are probably referring to is its release on Steam to promote the new game, since it has been available for free here on GOG for a long time now. Also, Beyond is a sequel but that does not make Beneath a Steel Sky into a prequel.

Please note these are all from Epic Games Store.
20XX looks pretty interesting. If you aren't sure what to try, try this:

Like mega man and aciton platformer? 20XX !
Like doom and 8 bit dungeon crawler? Barony !
Like to follow a warrior monk on their 8 bit adventure journey? Superbrothers

20XX is their second game inspired by mega man. This one they fixed bugs and regular update. I heard it on steam and wanted to try it out. I am so glad it is given out free!

Hey, just asking because I don't want to get banned: is this legal to do? I don't want to get my Steam account banned but that game looks really awesome!
No, it is not legal. However, I haven't seen anyone getting banned for it. There is a possibility they'll retract the game from your account though.

Installing games with the steam:// Handler is never illegal or other something.

What you in reality do in this case (and the other game mentioned above) is downloading and installing the client version of the game. It is as illegal as downloading the World of Warcraft client software or any other MMO client.

As both games are in reality games which run on (a) dedicated server(s), you will need to have some authorization to play at all. If the server(s) get shut down, each game will not be playable anymore anyway.

Soulfireu (the first game) is getting shut down anyway soon.

Thanks for your input, both of you. I guess I'll just claim it and if Steam gives me grief, I'll just ask them to remove it from my account in compliance with their rules. Thanks again!
Valiant Hearts free to add to your Uplay account through the Chinese store.

The trick is, you may have to use mobile (or if you're on a computer using a browser such as Firefox, use Responsive Design Mode via Ctrl+Shift+M), and add it from there. That is all there is to it, no need for VPN or anything. Don't worry if you don't get it right away (I didn't), so it might take a while. I'm told this is running through the weekend. It doesn't seem to be region locked, and no other regional store has this offer, but it worked for me.

It's going to be removed from your account, so there is no reason to request it be removed (which you can literally do anyway yourself without sending a long, strongly worded letter). I have some objections generally as a rule to when people promote getting a game through SteamDB because there are times this is not legitimate when a publisher unintentionally leaves this loophole that someone winds up finding and announcing the exploit - unless they have no problem with it. If you don't want to risk getting on Valve's bad side, then I'd advise not following that method.
