phaolo: I don't know what that achieves too, frankly. ¯\_('.' )_/¯

They're like 0,1%, though, and they don't contribute much, unless you count those useless fake friendly replies to noobs\alts.

True, but he wouldn't behave nicely anyway, as we have witnessed various times.

How exactly???
He stopped necroing and attacking for a week and just posted a few passive-agressive posts until now.
That's all..

Maighstir: Friendliness to new people is, I think, an easier way to go for him for the moment, having become so jaded by negativity from everyone else regardless of his responses that he feels it's no longer worth the effort (and instead, sadly, sometimes reads posts too quickly and automatically responds to the expected negativity with more of the same). I have seen him answer question threads with a very valid response and getting spam-flagged just for daring to post.

0.1% is very little, yes. But it's better than none. While I can't d anything about any down-vote scripts (I would prefer that GOG required a typed reason for downvoting, or at least for spam-marking, and that spam-marks would go through a staff member for validity at a certain threshold rather than auto-hide as said threshold).

I have witnessed him acting better. I respect him, even if I don't agree with his actions, and I feel have earned respect back.

I'm sorry if you see it that way. I try to be friendly towards everyone.

Oh gosh.. I didn't expect this..
You're too gentle and naive to properly deal with trolls :P

That's Fred Rogers, not Roy Rogers.

Lucius_Malfoy: I disagree with people low rating members in giveaway threads just because they're "New User's". I am a "New User", but that dosen't mean that I am an alt user or just joined to get free games. I participate in a lot of threads, a few of which happen to be giveaways. But I always make sure that I meet the requirements and I am always grateful whether I win or lose.

I understand that people are weary of scammers, but this is basically discrimination against "New User's" and not a good way to get more people to join GOG.

That's just my opinion and I'm not trying to start a fight, nor am I blaming anyone. I just think that there should be a serious increase in moderation and that the rep rating system should be changed.

zeogold: Yeah, the scamming situation really has made the community somewhat paranoid, but for good reason. I remember what it was like when I first came here, and it can definitely feel like you've stumbled upon some gold mine of both hilarity and generosity only to suddenly meet with backlash just because you didn't understand the unwritten rules of the forum.

As Telika pointed out, what do we do? Hide the issues only to sucker-punch the new user with all the forum drama we have, or tell it to the guy point-blank and watch him flee with arms flailing wildly in all directions?
It can only really be fixed by moderation, and GOG has made it painfully clear that they have no intention whatsoever of introducing any, it's just not profitable in any way for them to spend time on it.

That being said, it's undeniable that this place is way better than a lot of other forums out there, though. For all the issues we have, it's still worth staying just for the people here.
I'm just curious, what's happened to make everyone so suspicious!? My point was it's discouraging to people who are new to get low rated all the time just because of suspicion. Once again, not trying to start a fight, just curious. Also, how long will I have the "New User" label under my username?

A large influx of alt accounts being made used for scamming purposes. Scammers tend to make the account right there on the spot, so we tend to be wary of a new registration date.

As long as you avoid going to "my settings" at the top of the forum (above the "new post" button) to change it.

Lucius_Malfoy:
To get rid of the "New User" tag go to the top of the page and click on "My Settings". You'll be able to change it in there, upto 16 characters if I remember right.

In the States he was a legendary Cowboy/Movie Star who once famously said, "I never met a man I didn't like."

Hannibal Lecter said that too, probably :P

welcome to the thunderdome. getting a downvote is part of the gog experience, along with many other negative things. like no support by staff or dealing with a mass of impertinent and/or pathetic and/or ignorant and/or arogant and/or retarded and/or trolling users.

Why are you telling me this?

And hanging around with me will give me a bad name.

I'm sorry, but I can't speak to anyone who has more than -1050 rep.
